Tirukanthesvaram, Cuddalore Taluk, South Arcot District

On the east wall of the central shrine in the Natanapadesvara temple.

Vikramachola Year 11 : 1128-29 A.D.

This inscription records a gift of a sandhi lamp to God Tirukkannisvaram-udaiya Mahadeva of Solakulavallinallur . . . . . . . . . . . . . . in Rajaraja-valanadu.

No. 165.

(A. R. No. 145 of 1904).

Tirukanthesvaram, Cuddalore Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the north base of the central shrine in the Natanapadesvara temple.

Vikramachola. Year 11 : 1128-29 A.D.

This mutilated inscription records the gift of money in coin currently in use (anradu narkasu) by Kannamangalamudaiyan senampi . .[kalaya] vitangan of Vesalippadi, for the merit of his mother Nangaiyandi, for a sandhi lamp for god Tirukkannisva[ram-udaiya Mahadeva] in Solakulavallinallur in Pattanpakkai-nadu in Rajaraja-valanadu. It mentions the sivabrahmanas, Gautaman Kanda Sivan Alumpiran and Parasaran Sendan Vichchadeva Bhattan.

Tirukanthesvaram, Cuddalore Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the north base of the central shrine in the Natanapadesvara temple.

Vikramachola. Year 12 : 1129-30 A.D.

This inscription records the gift of one [a]nradu[narkasu] by Mangalankilan Ambalasolan alias Solasikhamani muvendavelan of Solakulavallinallur in Pattan [pakkai]-nadu in Rajaraja-valanadu to god Tirukkannisvaram-udaiya Mahadeva of that place. It mentions Tillainayaka Bhattan and Parasaran Sendan Pichchadeva Bhattan.

Tirukanthesvaram, Cuddalore Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the north base of the central shrine in the Natanapadesvara temple.

Vikramachola. Year 12 : 1129-30 A.D.

This inscription records the gift of 12 sheep by Alisupakkam-udaiyan Appuli Vembadigal alias Vikramasola Muvendavellan of Solakulavallinallur in Pattanpakkainadu in Rajaraja-valanadu, for a sandhi lamp for god Tirukkannisvaram-udaiya Mahadeva of that place. The sheep were made over to manradi Sottai Elunayan of Vesalippadi in the same nadu.

(A. R. No. 167 of 1904).

Tiruvakkarai, Viluppuram Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the north wall of the central shrine in the Chandramaulisvara temple.

Vikramachola. Year 12 : 1129-30 A.D.

This refers to a skirmish at Mambakkam in which Karunakara-chcholamuttaraiyan alias Surriyadevan, younger brother of Molakkan Pallikondan alias Vikramasola Nilagangaraiyan died. In order to expiate this sin Ayyaran Sattan alias Rajaraja Sengattu Molakkan is stated to have made a gift of cows for a perpetual lamp to Mulasthanamudaiyar in Tribhuvanamadevi-chaturvedimangalam in Viravatara-valanadu in Rajaraja-valanadu.

Tiruvakkarai, Viluppuram Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the east wall of the mandapa in front of the central shrine in

the Chandramaulisvara temple. Vikramachola. Year 5 : 1122-23 A.D.

This record commences with pumadu punara, etc., the prasasti of the king.

It mentions Arumbakkilan Araiyan of Manavil in Manavil-kottam in Jayangondachola-mandalam.

No. 201.

(A. R. No. 180 of 1904).

Tiruvakkarai, Viluppuram Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the west wall of the mandapa in front of the central shrine on

the Chandramaulisvara temple. Vikramachola. Year 3 : 1120-21 A.D.

This inscription records the assignment of padikaval collected from devadana lands belonging to the god at Tiruvakkarai in Mattur-nadu at the rate of 2 kalam of paddy per ma of wet land and 2 kalam of varagu per ma of dry land, by Sengeni Ammaiyappan Pandi alias Naralokavira-pperaiyan of Munnurruk-kudippalli in Vijayarajendra-valanadu in Oyma-nadu for the food and other offerings to the Udaiyar and Alvar at Tiruvakkarai. The amount of paddy to be transformed into rice required for every item is stated to be five units for every two units of rice.

On the north wall of the mandapa in front of the central shrine in the

 Chandramaulisvara temple. Vikramachola. Year 3 : 11209- 21 A.D.

This incomplete record mentions Kulangilavan Parpanaban (Padmanabhan) Tiruvengadam and Tiruvengadan-Churai, the lease-holders of the temple of Mahadevar in Tiruvakkarai in Mattur-nadu and Tali Di……………of Talaikkaviri-Meyur in Vilupparaiya-nadu.

(A. R. No. 207 of 1904).

Tiruvakkarai, Viluppuram Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the north base of the mandapa in front of the Varadaraja Perumal

shrine in the Chandramaulisvara temple. Vikramachola. Year 8 : 1125-26 A.D.

This inscription records the gift of 12 sheep for a sandhi lamp to the Alvar at Tiruvakkarai in Mattur-nadu by Settan (Jeshthan) Tiruvarai, a shepherd o Gangaikondasolapuram in Naduvir-kuru in Sola-mandalam. The sheep were made over to the car of Kulangilavan Attraiyan Tirunadudaiyan, a lease-holder of the temple.

No. 295.

(A. R. No. 267 of 1904).

Yogimallavaram, Puttur Taluk, Chittoor District.

On the west wall of the Parasaresvara temple. Vikramachola. Year 15 : 1132 – 33 A. D.

This inscription begins with the characteristic titles of a Yadavaraya and quotes a gift made in the 16th year of Vikramachola.

It records a gift of land towards the procession and other services to god Tippaladichcharamudaiyar in Tiruchchuganur in Kudavur-nadu in Tiruvengada-kkottam in Rajedrasola-mandalam.

No. 590.

(A. R. No. 545 of 1904).

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the south wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Vikramachola. Year [6] : 1123 A.D.

The details of date given viz., Year 6, Avani, su. Ayilyam are insufficient to calculate the equivalent.

This inscription records the sale of land, made tax-free, to god srimulasthana-mudaiyar by Ponmalai-chcheri Udaiyan. Velan. Suriyan alias Virudarajabhayankara Alundur-Velan, receiving 4 anradu narkasu granted to the temple for maintaining a garden, by Palaiyurudaiyan Chandrasekharan Adividangan alias Mahabalivanarayar. Of the 4 kasu, 1 kasu is stated to be the cost of the land and 3 kasu, the lump sum provided for making it tax-free.

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the west wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Vikramachola. Year 8 : 1125 A.D.

This inscription commences with the prasasti pumadu punara, etc., of Vikramachola. The details of date given viz., year 8, simha ba. 3, Tuesday, Revati correspond to 1125 A.D., August 18, f.d.t. ’09, f.d.n. ’27.

It records the gift of 17 kasu for a perpetual lamp to god Tiruvarurudaiyar Srimulasthanam-udaiyar by Gangaichetti, son of Kudiraichetti (horse - dealer) Siddha Chetti, a member of Virarajendradevamangala-chchattu in Melai-Marayapadi alias Koyirukkuru-nadu. This amount was received by the representatives of the body called Siva brahmanar Narpattenmar, holding leases of the temple, who agreed to contribute oil, measured by tudaiyulakku, equivalent to Purridangondan nali, out of the interest from the endowed amount.

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the south wall of the second prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Vikramachola. Year 3 : 1120 - 21 A.D.

This epigraph commences with the prasasti, Pumalai midaindu etc., of Vikramachola.

It records the gift of a piece of land, called Karpurakkudukkai on the northern banks of Kaduvay alias Rajanarayana-ppraru after making it tax-free to god Sri-mulasthanamudaiyar of Tiruvarur, by the Perunguri-mahasabhai of Pulivalam, brahmadeya in Puliyur-nadu in Arumolideva-valanadu, when it was assembled at Rajendrasola-atti (for attain).

(A. R. No. 562 of 1904).

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the south wall of the second prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Vikramachola. Year 3 : 1120 – 21 A.D.

This epigraph commences with the prasasti Pumalai midaindu of Vikramachola. His surname, Rajakesari, given here, is probably a mistake for Parakesari.

It records the sale of land made tax-free by the sabha of Vayarrur, a brahmadeya in Tiruvarur-kurram in Geyamanikka-valanadu, receiving 26 ½ kasu out of the amount endowed to the temple by Aravanai Pandakkuttan Kulottungasola Amattiyarayan, a member of the regiment called Tyagavalli Velaikkarar. A Tyagavinodan-salai madam is also mentioned.

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the south wall of the second prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Vikramachola. Year 4 : 1122 A.D.

This record commences with the prasasti, Pumadu punara etc., of Vikramachola. The details of date mentioned viz., year, 4, Rishabha, su. 3, Wednesday, Tiruvadirai, regularly correspond to 1122 A.D., May 10, ’66 ’53.

It records the price-deed (porulmavarudi) pertaining to the gift of land by purchase for a tank to be called Nedungulam, to the temple, from the Perunguri mahasabha of Tirunallur, a brahmadeya in Vela-nadu, in Kulottungasola-valanadu when they were assembled in Rajanarayanan-tirumandapam, by Madhurantakan Ponnambalakkuttan alias Porkoyilnambi Tondaimanar of Arumbakkam in Manavil-kottam. The land was purchased for 100 kasu given in gold currency of 32 ½ kalanju equal in value to Rajarajan-madai was endowed in order to supply Senkalunir flower for the god.

On the south wall of the second prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Vikramachola. Year 4 : 1121 - 22 A.D.

This record commences with the prasasti Pumalai midaindu etc., of Vikramachola. The details of date given are the same as in the foregoing number.

This records the sale-deed (vilaiyavanam) pertaining to the transaction recorded in No. 608 above.

On the south wall of the second prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Vikramachola.

This inscription stops after a few lines of the prasasti Pumalai midaindu etc., of Vikramachola (1118 – 1135 A.D.)

(A. R. No. 614 of 1904).

Tiruvandavar, Kanchipuram Taluk, Chingleput District.

On the south wall of the mandapa in front of the Tiruvandanathesvara temple.

Vikramachola.

The date is lost in the damaged portion of the inscription. This inscription records a gift of 17 sheep ( ) by one Narayana alias Narpattennayirakkon of a village in Kalatturkottam in Jayangondasola-mandalam towards part of the cost of burning a perpetual lamp.

Kulotltungachola II

No. 445.

(A. R. No. 415 of 1904).

Vedaranyam, Tirutturaippundi Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the south wall of the central shrine in the Vedaranyesvara temple.

Kulotltungachola III. year 4 : 1182 A. D.

The details of date viz., Mina su. 5. Thursday, Rohini correspond to 1182 A. D., March 11.

This records the gift of 150 kasu of gold for a perpetual lamp to the deity in the Tirumaraikkadu temple, in Kunrur-nadu, a sub-division of Umbala-nadu by Gunamalaippadi-udaiyan Gangaikondan Rajarajadeva alias Kottappichcholar. The sivabrahmanas received the money and undertook to supply one nali of ghee by the standard measure vedavana-nayakan, out of the interest of the endowed amount.

No. 449.

(A. R. No. 419 of 1904).

Vedaranyam, Tirutturaippundi Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the south wall of the mandapa in front of the central shrine in the Vedaranvesvara temple.

Kulottlunga III. year 4 : 1181 A. D.

The details of date, viz., vrischika, ba [6], Friday, Magha, correspond to 1181 A.D., October 30.

This records the gift of 150 anradunarkasu by Pallikondan Nagara Isuvaramudaiyan alias Virasingapanmar of Gunamalaippuram in venni-kkurram of Suttamali-valanadu for burning a perpetual lamp to the god Tirumaraikkadu-udaiyar. The Sivabrahmanas of the temple agreed to maintain the lamp, by the interest on the endowed amount, with one ulakku of ghee daily by the measure vedavana-nayakan.

The height of the lamp including the pedestal and the top portion is given as the length of) four fingers.

(A. R. No. 422 of 1904).

Vedaranyam, Tirutturaippundi Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the north wall of the mandapa in front of the central shrine in the Vedaranyesvara temple.

Kulottungachola II. year 2 : 1134 – 35 A.D.

This inscription begins with the prasasti Pumevi valar, etc., of the king.

It records the conferment of Tiruppadiyakkani and Sri-Mahesvara-kkangani in the temple of Tirumaraikkadu-Udaiyar, in Kunrur-nadu, a district of Dharani-mulududai-valanadu by the patipadamulappattu-udaiya Panchacharigal on Tiruchchirrambalamudaiyan Nagadevan alias Tyagasamudrappichchan and his group. The devarkanmigal of the temple were enjoined to supervise the singing of Tiruppadiyam and make sure that members partaking in the service were either related to or nominated by Tyagasamudrappichchan.

Kulottunga II. year 15 : 1147 – 48 A.D.

This inscription commences with the prasasti, Pumannupadumam etc., of Kulottunga II and stops after mentioning the date.

No. 597.

(A. R. No. 552 of 1904).

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the west wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Kulottunga II. Year 12 : 1143 – 44 A.D.

This inscription mentions a land survey made in the 16th year of Sungandavirttarulinadva i.e., Kulottunga I.

It records a gift to Sri-Mulasthanam-udaiyar, of land made tax-free, purchased from Brahmanas in Nadappur alias Uttamasolamangalam in Panaiyur-nadu in Kulottungasola-valanadu, in Edirilisolanallur, a tax free devadana, by Andapillai Andar. The produce from the land was to be utilized to maintain (1) three perpetual lamps, (2) servants bringing water from Kaduvay for the holy bath (3) servants in the garden called Purridangondan in Nandipura alias Karunakaranallur, a devadana (4) a servant working at the sengalunir gradient in Nadappur alias Uttamasolamangalam in Panaiyur-nadu and (5) the servant supplying hay for the cows (gosalaisurabhigal).

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the west wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Kulottunga II. year 10 : 1142 A.D.

This inscription commences with the prasasti pumannu padumam of Kulottunga. The details of date given viz., Year 10 Dhanus su. 11, Monday, Asvati, regularly correspond to 1142 A.D., November 30, ’98, ’68.

It records the sale of land made tax free, as kudinikkakkani to god Tiruvarurudaiyar Srimulasthanamudaiyar for the korru of the 12 tavasiyar who were tending the gardens and supplying Sengalunir-ttiruppallittamam from the garden at Vayarrur Kulottungasolan Perungulam by the sabha of Rajarajabrahmamangalam, a brahmadeya in Tiruvarur-kurram in Geyamanikka-valanadu, having met at Devasriyan Tirukkavanam receiving from the temple 157½ anradu narkasu.

The sale of another piece of land similar to this, for supply of the damanaka flowers is also recorded. The Sabha reserved for itself the supervisory functions and the responsibility to make over the produce of these lands to the temple.

No. 599.

(A. R. No. 554 of 1904).

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the north wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Kulottunga III. year. 24 : 1201 A.D.

This inscription mentions the 57th day of the 24th year of Tirubhuvanaviradeva who is referred to as nam tolan by the god.

It records the redistribution of tax-free lands made according to the order of the deity to the 100 andars, serving in the temple at the request of Virarajendrappallavaraiyan and Tirumuttin-sivigai-perran, by god Sri Purvvarurvasi, as the said andars failed to distribute among themselves properly the lands previously allotted to them and quarrelling left their land uncultivated. The lands lay in Sola-Keralanallur in Geyamanikka-valanadu. Tiruvaykkelvi Anukkanambi, tirumandiraolai Srinandikesvara-muvendavelan and tirumandira olai Srinandikesvara-muvendavelan and tirumandira olai Tyagavinoda-muvendavelan figure as signatories in the record.

Rajaraja II

No. 384.

(A. R. No. 355 of 1904).

Kudumiyamalai, Kulattur Taluk, Tiruchirappalli District.

On the rock to the south of the rock-cut shrine called Melaikoyil.

Rajaraja II. year 11 : 1156 – 57 A. D.

This inscription commences with prasasti pumaruviya tirumadum, etc., of the king.

It records the gift of pasture land and 12 buffaloes by purchase for 20 pon deposited in the temple treasury by Chara Araiyan Rajendran alias Kulottungasola-Kadabarayan for maintaining two perpetual lamps in the temple of Tirumerrali-mahadeva in Tirunalakkunram in Kunriyur-nadu. The land and the buffaloes were entrusted to the care of four Sivabrahmanas of the temple.

No. 558.

(A. R. No. 515 of 1904).

Kivalur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the south wall of the central shrine in the Akshayalingesvara temple.

Rajaraja II. Year 18 : 1163 A.D.

The details of date given, viz., 18th year, Dhanus ba. 8, Sunday, Hastam, correspond to 1163 A.D., December 20, Friday (not Sunday) 79; ’20.

This inscription records the grant by purchase of land called Sendamaraikkannan-kollai situated in Sattangudi, a hamlet of Periyalattur alias Kshatriyasikhamani-chchaturvedimangalam for rearing a garden for god Kedili-nayanar by Srimulattanam-udaiyan-bhattan of Kuravaseri worshipping god Tiruvarur-udaiyar in Tiruvarur-kurram in Geyamanikka-valanadu and Avudiyalchchani, wife of Perumbarrap-puliyur Vinayaka-bhattan, a devotee of this same god. The latter is stated to have had the former as her guardian (mudukan). Provision was also made for the residence of the andar tending the garden.

Kivalur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the south wall of the Sundarakuchamba shrine in the Akshayalingesvara temple.

Rajaraja II. Year 10 : 1155 A.D.

On palaeographical considerations, this inscription may be assigned to Rajaraja II. The details of date, viz., 10th year, Mesha, ba. 4, Friday, Mulam, regularly correspond to 1155 A.D., April 22, Friday, ’85, ’64.

This inscription records some arrangements made for laying a sanndhi-tiruvidi in front of the temple of god Kedili-nayanar of Kilvelur, by Arayan Singapiran of Kilakkudi and Narayanadevan Savuri-perumal.

Rajadhiraja II

No. 205.

(A. R. No. 184 of 1904).

Tiruvakkarai, Viluppuram Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the north wall of the mandapa in front of the central shrine

in the Chandramaulisvara temple. Rajadhiraja II. Year [3] : 1165-66 A.D.

This inscription may be assigned to rajadhiraja II both on grounds of paleography and on account of the donor . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sambuvarayan being a later member of the family of Sambuvarayas. Further the king bears the title Tribhuvanachakravartigal which is borne only by later members of the main Chola family. The year 3 is mentioned in the body of the inscription (line 8).

In lines 6 and 7 a transaction of the 12th year of salaikalamarutta Rajakesari is mentioned. This king may be identified with Rajadhiraja I.

The inscription seems to record the gift of land as devandana by Munnurru Sengai Mindan Siya ……………… Appan Sabuvarayan of Oyma-nadu. Since the inscription is built in, other details are lost.

Tiruvakkarai, Viluppuram Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the right side of the gopura of the first prakara of Chandramaulisvara temple.

Rajadhiraja II. Year 7 : 1169-70 A.D.

This inscription records the building of the gopura to be named Gandar Suriyan-tiruggopuram by Ammai Appan Pandinadu-kondan alias Gandar Suriyan Sambuvarayan. The same donor built in the 2nd year of Kulottunga a mandapa named after himself (No. 212 above) and made a gift of two lamps in the 16th year of the same king (No. 216 above)

No. 244.

(A. R. No. 222 of 1904).

Melsevur, Gingee Taluk, South Arcot District.

On the east wall of the first prakara of the Vrishabhapurisvara temple.

Rajadhiraja II. Year 13 : 1175, A.D. (?)

This inscription commences with the prasasti, Kadal sulnda par, etc., of Rajadhiraja II. The details of date given viz., 13th year, Karkataka 13, Wednesday, ba. 11, Rohini correspond to 1175 A.D., July 15, Tuesday not Wednesday, 77, 32. See Introduction page (iii). It refers to Ammai Appan Pandi alias Rajaraja Sambuvarayan and his grandfather Ammai Appan Kulamanikkam Pandinadu-kondar.

This records the grant of land as archchanavisesham to god Tiruttantonri Aludaiyar of Sevur in Uttamasola-valanadu in Jayangondasolamandalam by Ammai Appan Pandi alias Rajaraja Sambuvarayan. Vedaranyam, Tirutturaippundi Taluk, Tanjore District.

On the north wall of the first prakara in the Vedaranyesvara temple.

Rajadhiraja II. Year 14 : 1177 – 78 or 1180 – 81 A.D.

The details of date date given are Mithuna ba. 5, Wednesday, Sodi (Svati). The combination of ba. 5 and Svati is impossible in the month of Mithuna.

This records the gift of 1½ veli and 1 ma of land made free of taxes fixed by raja-niyogam, nattuvivattai (vyavasthai), ur-vivattai etc., as tirunandavilakkupuram, by Panganvay-udaiyan alias Rajaraja-muvendavelan, of Kiliyur for burning a perpetual lamp to the deity Tirumaraikkadu-udaiyar, in Umbala-nadu.

In detailing the boundaries of the land the record mentions a piece of land sold by the donor to Aludai Nachchi Amudalvi, (a devaradiyar), and a piece of land leased to Arindavan Pallavaraiyan by Chittarayan.

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the east wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple,

 right of entrance. Rajadhiraja II. Year 2 : 1164 or 1168 A.D.

This inscription commences with the prasasti Kadal sulnda parmagalum etc., of Rajadhiraja II. The details of date given, viz., Year 2, Mesha su. 6, Monday, Punarpusam, regularly correspond to 1168 A.D., April 15, Monday, ’30 ; ’28. Dr Kielhorn however has equated these details to 1164 A.D., March 30, ’85. The star, however, was current throughout Tuesday and continued on Wednesday till ’10 of that day according to the Indian Ephemeris.

This records a gift of two pieces of land by purchase as Rajadhirajapperuvilai from Tonri Muvayirattoruvan, one of the tiruvidi andar and a headman of Perunar, tiruppudiyiduttu vilagam (i.e., land whose fresh produce is entirely allotted for food offerings) by Palaiyanur-udaiyan Vedavanam-udaiyan Ammai-Appan alias Rajaraja-vilupparaiyan of Menmalai-ppalaiyanur-nadu in Jayangondasola-mandalam.

On the east wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Rajadhiraja II. Year 10 : 1173 A.D.

This inscription commences with the prasasti, Kadal sulnda parelum etc., of Rajadhiraja II. The details of date given, viz., Year 10, Mina su. 13, Tuesday, Magha regularly correspond to 1173 A.D., February 27, Tuesday, ’48 ; ’65. These details regularly correspond also to 1176 A.D., February 24, Tuesday, ’41 ; ’85.

This records a grant of land, bought as Irajadhiraja-pperuvilai in Solakeralanallur in Tiruvarur-kkurram in Geyamanikka-valanadu as kani to goddess Paraloka . . . . . menmoli-nachchiyar in the shrine of the goddess Tirukkamakkottam-udaiya Periyanachchiyar in the temple of god Sri-mulasthanamudaiyar by Palaiyanurudaiyan Vedavanamudaiyan Ammai Appan alias Pallavarajan of Menmalai-palaiyanur-nadu in Jayangondasola-mandalam (vide No. 583 above).

On the east wall of the first prakara Tyagarajasvamin temple, right of entrance.

Rajadhiraja II. year 9 : 1172 A.D. (?)

This inscription commences with the kprasasti, Kadalsulnda parmagalum etc., of Rajadhiraja II. The details of the date given, viz., year 9, Tula ba. Are insufficient for verification. Other details are lost in the portion built in.

This records a grant of land in Rajaraja-pottur alias Ammaiappanallur, formerly a portion of Sirukurranallur, in Vela-nadu in Kulottungasola-valanadu, purchased for 1500 kasu, to god Srimulasthanam-udaiyar of Tiruvarur, by Palaiyanurudaiyan Vedavanamudaiyan Ammai Appan alias Pallavarajan of Menmalai-ppalaivanur (Vide Nos. 582 and 583 above).

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the east wall of the first prakara in the Tyagarajasvamin temple,

 right of entrance. Rajadhiraja II. Year 5 : 1167 A.D. (?)

This inscription is dated in the 19th day of the 5th year of Tribhuvanachakravartin Rajadhirajadeva, evidently identical with Rajadhiraja II on account of the mention of an order of Vikrama-chola.

This records an order of the king, restoring to the servants of the temple of Srimulasthanamudaiyar, house-sites previously made tax-free and set apart for them after making allotments to the chettis, chekkara, their followers and Cholendirasingan velaikkarar in the 9th year of Vikramachola. The sites are stated to have been later on encroached upon by the chettis for their dwellings and shops. It is also stated that the servants of the temple were to receive 100 kasu in compensation.

This inscription commences with the Prasasti pumaruviya poruppelum, etc., and stops in the middle.

Ramagiri, Tiruvallur Taluk, Chingleput District.

On the south wall of the central shrine in the Valisvara temple. Rajadhiraja II.

On account of the title Tribhuvanachakravarttigal and the characters of the inscription, the king of the record may be identified with Rajadhiraja II.

This inscription records the gift of 3 lamps (i.e., 3 twilight lamps to the deity Tirukkarikarai-udaiyar and one twilight lamp to Pillaiyar, (i.e., Tirujnan-sambandar), by Siyanadiyan Kalisattakan Adittadevan Nandipanman. Kari pillai, Andan and Atkonda-pillai, were to maintain one lamp each.
