EARLY CHOLAS OF RENANDU

No. 593.

(A. R. No. 405  of  1904.)

On a slab set up in a field by the side of the road from Chilamkuru to Muddanuru, Muddanuru, Jammalamadugu Taluk, Cuddapah District.

Undated.

States that a certain [R]yamayyaru (?) erected a temple of the Sun and endowed it, on the occasion of a Solar Eclipse, with the permission of Chodamaharaja with a  piece of land and an oil-pressing mill.

On the door-post of the entrance into the

central shrine of the temple of Chennakesavasvami

at Mutukuru, Pulivendla Taluk, same District. Undated.

States that while Chodamaharaja was ruling the  Renandu seven thousand  a certain Bhikiraju made a gift of one hundred and twenty marutus of land fetching twelve puttis of paddy to a certain Saivite mendicant Apimana-Gorava.

On a pillar set up near Malla  Reddi’s house,

Prodduturu, Proddutur Taluk, same District. Undated.

Damaged.  Seems to record that, with the permission of a Chola king (name lost) who was ruling the Renandu seven thousand, some one made a gift on the occasion of a Solar Eclipse.

No. 596.

(A. R. No. 352  of  1905.)

On a slab set up to the west of the Siva temple at

Peddamudyam, Jammalamadugu Taluk, same District.  The year is lost.

Damaged.  Seems to record that the queen of Chola-maharaja made a gift of land.

No. 597.

(A. R. No. 406  of  1904.)

On the same slab as A.  R.  No.  405 of 1904 Undated.

Damaged.  Seems to record that during the reign of a certain Chola-[maharaja] certain private persons made a gift of land.

No. 598.

(A. R. No. 408 and 408-A  of  1904.)

On three faces of a pillar lying near the threshing floor in

Kosinepalli, Jammalamadugu Taluk, Cuddapah District. Undated.

States that, while Chola-maharaja was ruling the Renandu seven thousand, one Badeyya Rattodlu consecrated a temple and his wife Maraka[na] and son Chamundeya put up the inscribed slab.

No. 599.

(A. R. Nos. 384, 384-A and 384-B  of  1904.)

On two faces of a pillar set up in the courtyard of the temple of Ramalingesvara

 at Ramesvaram, Proddutur Taluk, same District.  5th year of Punyakumara’s reign.

Records the grant by Queen Vasantipori-Cholamahadevi to Vasantisvara (?) of three hundred marutus of land and two gardens in Viripariti for the merit of  Punyakumara-Prithivi-Vallabha-Cholamaharaja.  It also says that twelve marutus of land were given to a certain Vanapotula Muchchiya, who was to render service to the devotees (tapasulu) attached to the temple (?)

On a pillar in the temple of Agastyesvara,

Chilamkuru, Jammalamadugu Taluk, same District. Undated.

Damaged.  Records a grant by the Queen of Vikramadityacholamaharaja.  The rest is unintelligible.

On a pillar lying near a well called the Kattabhavi on the way to the

Mopuru temple from Nallacheruvupalli, Pulivendla Taluk, same District. Undated.

Damaged.  Seems to record a grant of land by the Queen of a Chola King.

No. 602.

(A. R. No. 798  of  1917.)

On a hero-stone set up to the north-east of the village of 

Budidigaddapalli, Hindupur Taluk, Anantapur District. Undated.

Incomplete.  Mentions Aravala, son of Chola-maharaja.

Unintelligible.  Seems to record the gift of a tank by Cholamahadevi.

On two sides of a pillar set up in the court-yard of the Vishnu

temple at Arakatavemula, Proddutur Taluk, same District. Undated.

Records the grant of (land ?) to Vinna Sarma, son of Vanganurla Charuva Sarma by Bhujangadi Bhupaditya of Perbana-vamsa during the reign of Vallabha-maharaja.

On a mutilated slab lying on the bank of the river Penneru in

Danavulapadu, Jammalamadugu Taluk, same District. Undated.

Incomplete and unintelligible.  Seems to record a gift of land.

On two faces of a pillar lying in front of the temple of

Gopalakrishna at Malepadu, Proddutur Taluk, same District. Undated.

Unintelligible.  Seems to record the grant of twenty-five marutus of land.

On two faces of a broken pillar lying in the court-yard of the temple of

Chennakesavasvami at Kalamalla, Kamalapuram Taluk, same District. Undated.

Damaged and unintelligible.  Mentions Dhananjaya and Rena[ndu].

On a slab set up close to the east wall of

States that this is the temple Reva-Sarmma, son of Rechupa-Sarmma of the Bharadvaja-gotra.

On one of the steps leading up to the Siva temple on the bank of the  river

Cheyyeru, about two miles to the west of Paturu, Rajampeta Taluk, same District. Undated.

States that some one is a lion of the three worlds.
