Registers a gift of land by purchase from the temple authorities, for 20 chakram by Uliyam Talaiyari Ekandar, towards garlands and food offerings.  The record is dated in Saka 1428, Prabhava, Tula, ba. 3, (Saturday), Rohini corresponding regularly to A.D. 1507, October 23, Saturday ; f.d.t. 18; 67

This Telugu record is damaged and engraved over an earlier Tamil inscription.  Seems to record a grant of land by purchase by Srirangaraja, son of Kuruncheti Vobularaja of Kasyapa-gotra, Apastamba-sutra and Yajus-Sakha, for offerings to Kurattavlar .  The details of the date viz., Saka 1430, Vibhava, Jyeshtha su.  Panchami, Friday regularly correspond to 1508 A.D., May 5, Friday, 41.

Saka 1433 (1511 A.D.) 

Registers a gift of 7 veli of land in the village Manakkudi Sendamaraik-kannanallur alias Gangaiyanpettai by Lingayan son of Patsala Nagu-setti of Punagasila-gotra, a Tiraivarnika of Perungondai-rajya for the daily and special offerings to god Ranganatha.  States that the donee originally obtained the village from Immadi Virana-Dannayaka for the deity and that it was situated in Kilpalaru in Uraiyur-kurram, a sub-divisiion of Tankarai-Rajagambhira-valanadu.  The details of the date viz., Saka 1433, Prajapati, Simha, ba. Dvadasi, Wednesday, Pushya, correspond to A.D. 1511, August 20, Wednesday, 27; 55.

Angirasa (1513 A.D.) 

The record is in Kannada engraved in Grantha and Tamil characters and purports to be the king’s order to Dannayaka Viraya not to collect the various taxes from the tiruvidaiyattam lands of an annual tax-yield of 630 honnu (pon) formerly granted to the temple as sarvamanya by Hiriyasvami (the elder Lord), and now re-endowed by him (the king), stipulating that these lands should not be trespassed for purposes of tax-collection in his (the chief’s) territory.  The details of date viz., Angirasa, Phalguna, su.5 are insufficient for verification but may be equated to 1513 A.D., February 10, Thrusday.

Saka 1435 (1513 A.D.) 

Partly built in and damaged.  Registers the gift of a grove (toppu) 900 kuli in extent, by Timmappa-nayakkar and Adiyappa-nayakkar, sons of Vasa-vasankara Mallappa-nayakkar, the vassal officer of Krishnadeva- rayar.  Mentions also Chinnappa-nayakkar along with the other two as a donor.  The details of the date viz.  Saka 1435, Srimukha, . . . . ba. 5, Monday, Uttiram ara incomplete and also irregular.  1435, Srimukha corresponds to 1513 A.D.

Register the grant of the village Uppur of Melaimuri in Vadagarai Malainadu by Polu-chettiyar alias Krishnaraya-Nayakkar, son of Vengalu-Chettiyar of Kanchipuram towards offerings to god Ranganatha for the merit of the king.  Shares are allotted to feed Srivaishnavas and his (the donor’s) gardeners.  Also mentions the grant of land in Tirumangalam of Kilaimuri for special offerings to god at his garden.  The details of the date Saka 1435, Srimukha, Vrischika, su. 12, Friday, Revati correspond to A.D. 1513, November 9, Wednesday, (not Friday), f.d.t. 24; 84.

Fragmentary.  Seems to refer to a gift of land as tiruvidaiyattam.  The details of the date viz.  Saka 1435, Srimukha, Makara, su. 1 . . . . .  Sravana, Makara-sankranti regularly correspond to 1513 A.D., December 28, the week day was Wednesday, 27, f.d.n.  19.

Registers a gift of 100 pon, the interest of which was to be spent towards offerings (and distribution) to god Krishnaraya on the occasion of Sri-Jayanti-Urriyadittirunal, to god Ranganatha on the occasion of the birth of the new year and to Sriranga-Nachchiyar on the occasion of the Mahanavami celebrations by Kandadai Madhavayyangar, a disciple of Kandadai Ramanujayyangar.  A share of the last mentioned special offering was to go the Ramanujakuta.  The details of the date, Saka 1436, Bhava, Vrischika, su. 12, Friday, Revati correspond to A.D. 1514, October 30, Monday (not Friday), 50, 97.

Inner wall of the Vitthala shrine in the Rangavilasa-Mandapa Yuva (1515 A.D.) 

Records that 2 veli of land belonging to the temple were allotted for worship to the images of Vitthalesvara and Madurakavi-Alvar.  Refers to the construction of a mandapa and the formation of a garden by Kandai Madhavayyangar.  Also refers to a shrine of Tiruppan-Alvar.  See No. 357 above in continuation of which this inscription is engraved.

Saka 1438 (1517 A. D) 

Fragmentary.  Narrates the course of Krishnadevaraya’s expedition against Addanki, Nagarjunakonda, Vinukonda and Kondavidu, etc., and gives a list of his various charities at many places culminating in a grand gift of the five villages Kiliyanallur , Viranthanallur, Panamangalam, Perungudi, and Muttarasanallur, made personally to god Ranganatha to be enjoyed as sarvamanya on the date of his visit to the temple.  A share of the offerings is allotted to the line of disciples at the Sathagopajiyar-matham.  The details of the date of the king’s visit viz, Saka 1438, Dhatu, Makara, ba. 11, Monday is referred to as Magha ba. 11 in No. 371 below.  If Makara is a mistake for Magha the details may correspond to A.D. 1517, February 16, Monday.

Saka 1438 (1517 A.D.) 

Damaged, Gives the king’s prasasti containing a chronological account of his conquests.  States that he visited the temple on the date specified and seems to enumerate a list of jewels and precious stones that he presented to the deity.  Also records the remission on some villages evidently granted to the temple on the occasion.  Of the details of the date of the king’s visit, only the cyclic year Dhatu (=Saka 1438) Magha, ba. 11, Monday are preserved and these regularly correspond to 1517 A.D. February 16, Monday.

Saka 1440 (1518 A.D.) 

Registers the grant of the village Ninnaiyur in Kilangu-nadu of Ra[ja]ra[ja] purachchavadi as tiruvidaiyattam and the recovery of Neruvur and Vangal from Kilangunattar after paying off (?) dues on the same, by Rayasam Kondama-rasayya towards five dishes of food offerings to god Ranganatha.  Shares are also allotted out of these to the Ramanuja-kutam to feed Srivaishnavas, to Pachchuva Varadayan for gardening and offerings of food and garlands.  The details of the date viz., Saka 1440, Bahudhanya, Mesha, su. 3 Monday, Rohini, regularly correspond to 1518, A.D. April 12, Monday, f.d.t. 13, f.d.n. 26.

Saka 1442 (1521 A.D.) 

Registers a gift by Kandadai Madhavayyangar of 80 pon of gold, the interest on which is to be spent towards special offerings to god Ranganatha on the second day of the Brahmotsava while he halts at Madhavayyangar Tiruttoppu-mandapa and on the fifth day of the Masi festival instituted in the name of Krishnadeva-Maharaya when the god halts at the garden adjoining Pradhani Timmarasar-toppu.  The date of the record Saka 1442, Mina, su. 5, Wednesday, Rohini corresponds regularly to 1521, A.D. March 13, Wednesday, 40, 89.

Registers the agreement given by the temple treasury to Timmppa-Nayakar, son of Peddappa-Nayakkar, an officer in the treasury (vassal-bokkisha)of Krishnadevaraya, to utilize the interest on his deposit of 200 pon, towards special offerings on the occasion of the Lord’s hunting festival (Padivettai) on the third day from the sankramana at the garden of Alagiya-Manavalan.  The details of the date, Saka 1444, Chitrabhanu Makara, su, Thursday, Punar-pusam, correspond regularly to 1523; A.D. January 1, Thursday, 94, 84.

Saka 1445 (1523 A.D.) 

Records a gift of land measured by Rajavibhatan by Manalur Pillai Appayyan who had himself received it as a gift from the king (viz., Krishnaraya) in the year Bhava as one of the dasadanas on the occasion of consecrating the temple car.  The gift was made for the purpose of conducting the Sri-Rama-navami festival in the Nalantigal-Naranan tirumandapam with sacred bath and food offerings.  The details of the date viz.  Saka 1445, Subhanu, Tula, ba. Saptami, Thursday, Ardra, regularly correspond to A.D. 1523, October 1, Thursday, 60, 28.

Fragmentary.  Records a gift of 174 cows to the goddess for milk-food.  Mentions probably as the donor, Tennavan Brahmarayar Tirumalai Alagiya Perumal Rangar.  The details of the date viz.  Saka 1445, Subhanu, Masi, 20 . . . dasi, are insufficient for calculation.  The details correspond to 1524 A.D., February 15, Monday, on which day the tithi was ekadasi.

Records the gift of the village Tandankurai as tiruvidaiyattam for offerings to the deity and for running the Ramanujakutam and the tiruttoppuk-kattalai instituted by Kandadai Ramanuja Aiyangar, by Timmarasaiyan the Pradhani of the king. The date of the record viz., Saka 1446, Tarana, Karkataka, su. Panchami Wednesday, Uttiram correspond regularly to 1524, A.D. July 6.  Wednesday, 05; 31.

Saka 1446 (1524 A.D.) 

Records a gift of 10,500 chakra-panam by Ramanujadasa alias Lakshmi-pati-setti and his brother Antappa, sons of Tippu-setti of the Sahasra-gotra who was a disciple of Kandadai-Nayinar-Ayyangar, for the midnight offerings to the god.  This money was required to be invested in tanks and channels and the resultant revenue was to be spent for the purpose. Also registers a gift of money by the former for certain ornaments to the images of the god and the goddess. The details of date viz.  Saka 1446, Tarana, Simha, su. Dvitiya, Uttiram, Wednesday correspond to 1524, A.D. August 1, Monday and not Wednesday. The record is dated in the reign of Tirumalaideva Maharaja.

Fragmentary.  Records gift of land by Vasavappa-nayakkar, son of Tippaya-nayakkar for offerings on the occasions of the gods procession on Nambiran (horse). The details of the date viz., Saka 1447, Parthiva, Kanni su. 10, Tuesday (Sravana) regularly correspond to 1525 A.D., September 26 Tuesday, 38, 19.

Damaged.  Records an endowment of 105 pon for maintaining the persons engaged in reciting the Jnanachintamani before the god. The details of the date viz., Saka 144[7], Parthiva, Makara, ba. 5, Wednesday, . . . . . . . regularly correspond to 1526 A.D. January 3, Wednesday, 82. The nakshatra was puram, 07.

Nanmugan-gopura, Inner Jamb

Saka 1448 (1527 A.D.) 

Records that king Krishnaraya caused the two doors of the entrance into the first prakara to be plated with gold and that Isvara, the brother of Ananta of Bharadvaja-gotra, presented a circular pitha to the god in the month of Phalguna in Vyaya.  All these benefactions were done in Saka 1448 expressed by the chronograms Jivadvakye and devabhogye and which corresponded to Vyaya (= 1526-27 A.D.)

Saka 1448 (1527A.D.) 

Registers the gift of the village Guhapriyam as poliyutti towards offerings to god at Vasavappa-Nayakkar-mandapa at Guhapriyam on the day of the death anniversary of Vasavayya-Nayakkar, by his sons, Periya Ramappar and Siru Ramappar.  The details of date, Saka 1448, Vyaya, Panguni 15, correspond to 1527 A.D., March 12, Tuesday but are not enough for verification.

Saka 1449 (1527 A.D.) 

Gives the genealogy of the chief as :  Kobala his son Tippaya, his son Vasava, his sons, the donors.  Registers a gift of the village Guhapriyam by the sons of Vasavayya-Nayaka of Kobala family out of their gratitude to god Ranganatha who favored their father with eternal bliss (Vaikunthaprapti) (See NO. 383 above).  A share of the offerings is allotted to Kandadai-Nayan-tirumaligai towards the feeding of Srivaishnavas.  Only the Saka year 1449 expressed by the chronogram Dhanvibhogye is preserved, the other details of the date being lost.

Saka 1450 (1528 A.D.) 

The inscription is highly damaged and illegible.  It gives an elaborate list of provisions made for conducting a number of specified festivals.  Of the details of the date all that could be made out is the Saka year 1450.  It corresponds to 1528 A.D.

Saka 1450 (1528 A.D.) 

Seems to refer to an endowment of 40 pon by Narayana of Sirupakkam, son of Pattesa of Kausika-gotra and Apastamba-sutra for services and offerings in the temple during the monthly asterism of Uttara-Phalguni.  The details of the date viz., Saka 1450, Sarvadharin Dhanus, ba 9, Hasta correspond to 1528, A.D. December 5, 05, 37.

Saka 1450 (1529 A.D.) 

Registers an investment of money from the interest on which certain offerings are provided for god Ranganatha while he halts at the garden of Narasingarayar Srirangaraja-Nayinar of Mathala-gotra on the fourth day during the festival in the month of Panguni.  A share of the offerings is allotted to the said Nayinar of the garden.  The details of the date viz., Saka 1450, [Sa]rvadharin, Mina, su[9], Thursday, Pushya correspond to A.D. 1529, March 18, Thursday, 56, f.d.n. 15.  At the end of the record the perpetual devotion (sadasevai) of Timmarasa is recorded.

Saka 1451 (1529 A.D.) 

Registers the investment of 40 pon from the interest on which certain offerings are to be  made to god Ranganatha,, while he halts at the garden of Kuppayyan alias Narayanan, son of Tiruvali-Alvan of the Kausika-gotra, on the fourth day during the festival in the month of Chittirai.  A share of the offerings is to go to Kuppayya-pillai, obviously the donor.  The record begins with a sloka in Sanskrit, the continuation of which is lost in the masonry.  The date viz.  Saka 1451, Virodhin, Mesha. Ba. 9, Friday, Sravana corresponds to A.D. 1529, April 2, Friday, f.d.t. 0.8, f.d.n. .00.

Badly damaged.  Contains the Prasasti of  Krishnadevaraya describing his victories.  Seems to record an endowment of lands in the villages Muttarasanallur, Perungudi, etc., as well as a gift of some jewels set with precious stones.  The date of the record is lost.  On a comparison of the contents of the record with No. 371 above it is possible to surmise that the record may be placed about 1517 A.D.

Badly damaged.  Gives the usual Prasasti of Krishnadevaraya recounting his conquests.  Seems to record a provision made for taking out the deity on procession on the Jyeshtha asterism on the occasion of the king’s visit to Sri-rangam.  The details of the date are lost.  For the date of the king’s visit see. No. 370 above.

Virodhi (1530 A.D.) 

Records several gifts of precious stones, silver and gold ornaments, etc., by Nayinar Pillai, brother of Anantalvar dating from Vyaya to Virodhi, Tai 8.  States that these services were carried out at the instance of Kirshnadevaraya.  The Saka year 1451 given at the beginning of the record is evidently to be equated with Virodhi.  Tai 8 of the year, corresponds to 1530, A.D., January 4.  See No. 397 below.

Records the plating of certain objects with gold and silver by Anantalvar-pillai, son of Srirangarajar of Uttaramelur Kuravaiseri, Praying for the success of the digvijaya of Achyutadeva-Maharaya.  Mentions Bhupalarayantukku.  The details of date viz., Saka 1451, Virodhi, Tai 8, correspond to 1530 A.D.  January 4, but are insufficient for verification.

Records that Chennaya-Balayadeva-maharaja bearing the epithets such as Uraiyur-puravaradhisvara, Cholakulatilaka and Kaveri-vallabha set up the utsava image of  Uraiyur-Nachchiyar and provided for worship and offerings by creating the following endowments: 

(1) 812 pon yielding an interest of 146 pon per year at 18 per cent i.e., 1-½ panam per 100 panam per month, for offering two dishes daily to Nachchiyar and two dishes daily after the rayar-avasaram to Perumal; (2) 60 pon for raising a garden for the goddess to halt on the occasion of the 8th day of the festival in the month of Masi arranged by Krishnaraya and (3) 60 pon the interest on which was to be utilized for food offerings to Perumal on all occasions of his visit to the garden mentioned above.  The flowers and vegetables grown in the garden were required to be made over to the temple treasury.  Also stipulates that the donor’s share i.e., one fourth of the daily offerings viz., one taligai (consisting of eight nails) should be distributed in two equal shares to Alagiya-manavala-Jiyyar and to Kovil Vattamani Embar Ayyanagar in perpetuity through the disciples in the case of the former and through the descendants in the case of the latter.  The donor’s share of the offerings at the garden was assigned to the former.

States that as the four pillared mandapa was found insufficient to accommodate the deity on the 7th day festival called the Ellaikkarai-tirunal, Sankarasa, son of Avasaram, Mallarasayyan, enlarged it into a sixteen-pillared mandapa and provided for offerings to the god as the gift of Achyutadeva-Maharaya.  A few implements of the Rathakaras such as a pair of pincers, a hammer, a chisel, etc., are also carved on one of the faces of the pillar.  The Saka year 1459 quoted in the record corresponded with Hevilambi and in this year Ani 25 corresponded with June 22, 1537 A.D.

Registers the gift of two villages . . . .  .and Idaikkudi in the name of Achyutaraya Maharayar and Chikka Rayar for the various offerings to the god Emberumanar Tiruvengadanatha at Ellaikkarai, consecrated by Tirumalai Nayakkar, son of Kachchi Visvanatha-Nayakar.  The gift includes the provisions made for the several servants of the temple.  Though the details of the date are not complete, the cyclic year Vilambi, the day, tithi and nakshatra along with the Saka year ending in 60, help us to fix the date as Saka 1460 Vilambi correspond to A.D. 1538 November 13 (Karttika 14), Wednesday, (ba. 7) 22, . 68.

In Sanskrit verse.  Registers royal gift of a pearl cuirass to the god and a jeweled crown for the goddess.  Also registers a gift of 2 kshetra of land in Sangamavallika (Kudalur) (vide No. 433) received from Sriranga-narayana (Jiyar) by Ramachandra for providing offerings to god Chakkarattalvar.  Ramachandra is stated to be a brother of Ahobalapati who brought the royal gift to the temple from Saluva Timma.  The details of the date quoted are Saka 1461 expressed by the chronogram Pakshivandye, Vilambi, Nakra (Makara) ba. 5, Wednesday, the Saka year quoted is current, the details seem to correspond to 1539, A.D. January 8, Wednesday, the tithi commenced at 51 of the day f.d.n. 38.

Records a royal gift of a kirita and a karma-patra to god Ranganatha at Srirangam through Vengalayya, the rayasam officer of  Ramabhatlayya.  The inscription is in Kannada.  The details of the date viz. Saka 1461, Vilambi, Pushya, ba. 30, Sunday, regularly correspond to 1539, A.D. January 19, Sunday; ba. 14 was current till .17 of the day and Amavasya commenced thereafter.

January 31, Friday; 29; 65.

States that under orders from Srirangappa-Nayaka, son of Tuluva vengala-Nayaka, the two verses in Sanskrit composed by Oduva Tirumalaidevi Amman, the Rayamahishi, in honor of her husband, the king, on the occasion of the Tulabhara mahadana performed by him were engraved.  The details of the date viz. Saka 1461, Vikari, Bhadrapada, su. 12, Tuesday, Sravana correspond regularly to 1539, A.D. August 26, Tuesday .36, 72.

Records that the village Uttamasili which was formerly granted to the temple of Ranganatha at Srirangam as Tiruvidaiyattam for the god, having been included as a non-tenure village in Tiruchchirapalli-usavadi at a later date was subsequently re-granted to the temple to provide for feeding the Srivaishnavas on the evidence of an old copper-plate grant produced by Singarachar, the agent of Kandadai Ramanuja-Ayyangar to Visvanatha-Nayaka, (the officer in charge) of the Tiruchchirapalli-usavadi.  The details of the date viz.  Saka 1461, Vikari Makara, su, Ekadasi, Monday, Mrigasirsha regularly correspond to 1540 A.D.  January 19, Monday f.d.t. 03, f.d.n. 17.

Damaged.  Registers a gift garments, Pillows and Paraphernalia worked with pearls and silk garments embroidered with gold for decoration when the god is seated in the Palanquin, by Akkachchi Amman, sister of Periya Tirumalaideva  Maharaja and daughter of Salakkayyadeva Maharaja.  The record is dated Saka 1461, Vikarin, Panguni 5, corresponding to 1540, A.D. March 1.  The details are insufficient for verification.

Fragmentary.  Records a share of the vada offerings made to god as the vittavan-vilukkadu of Nacharama.  Also enumerates certain ornaments such as gold chains, ornaments called Indra-gopas, caps worked with gold, bronze plate and torches to god Rangaraja by Akkajamma.  The date of the record is lost.

March 3, Wednesday.

March 6, Saturday, 65, f.d.n. 02.

Records a gift of a lamp stand weighing 1399 varahan and an endowment for its upkeep of Chikka Venkatadriraya, son of the king, through Salakaraja Chinna Tirumaladeva Maharaja. The gift appears to have been made over to the temple by Bhogayyadeva Maharaja. The record is dated Saka 146[2] Sarvarin Avani 27, corresponding to 1540, A.D. August 26.  The details are however insufficient for verification.

Records an endowment of 146 pon by Akkachchi-Amman for offerings on the fourth day of the recital of the Vedas and Tiruvaymoli (Periya tiruvadhyayanam vedaparayanam). The endowment was entrusted into the hands of Koyil Kandadai Annan, the preceptor of Mahamandalesvara Bhanukula-bhushana Salakayyadeva and Akkachchi-Amman. The details of the date viz., Saka 1462, Sarvarin, Mina ba. 7, Friday, Mula regularly correspond to 1541 A.D. March 18, Friday, 96, 81.
