AGARKHED, INDI TALUK, BLIAPUR DISTRICT

Slab set up in the compound of Bhairappa temple

ribhuvanamalla ( Vikramaditya VI ) ----A. D. 1009

This record is dated Chalukya –Vikrama year 34, Virodhin, Marggasira, Punname, Monday, lunar eclipse, Uttaryana-samkranti. The details are irregular. The samkranti occurred on Saturday, December 25, A. D. 1109, when the tithi was Pushya,Su 2. The eclipse occurred on November 9, Tuesday when the tithi was  Karttika  Punname. The intended date might be A.D. 1109, November 8, Monday, f. d. t., 53.

The inscription records a remission of taxes on the land (aruvana) of the temple Of Svayambhudeva at Kneda in the One Thousand division, by Lakshmidhara- Bhattopadhyaya, who was the preceptor of Yuvaraja Mallikarjunadeva, the eldest son Of the king, to the same temple. The latter was then governing over the Tarddavadi- 1000 division.  It further registers gifts of money income, taxes, etc, to the same temple by Mahapradhana, Permadiyarasa, Mabamandalesvara Govanarasa of the Silara family whose genealogy also is given and by the Five Hundred Svamis of Ayyavole and the Eight nadus.

Tribhuvanamalla ( Vikramadtya VI ) ----A. D. 1111

This record is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 36, Khara, Vaisakha, Punami, Monday, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A.D.1111, April 24. Monday, f.d.t. 62. The Eclipse occurred on the next day.

The inscription records a gift of land and house-site as Bhattavritti for reading The Purana made by Perggade Kirttiraja when Mahamandalalesvara Kumara Jaya- Karnadeva was governing the mahagrahara Sindige. The King is stated to be ruling From Jayantipura.

This record which is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 37, khara, Pushya, Punname, Friday, Uttarayana-samkranti, stops abruptly after giving the date. The details of the Date are irregular. The given tithi corresponds to A.D. 1111, December 17, Sunday, Whereas the samkranti occurred on Monday, December 25, the tithi being ba. 8. The record falls in the reign-period of Vikramaditya VI.

LAKSHMESVAR, SHIRHATTI TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Slab built into the wall of the backyard of the Taluk Office  

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI)—A.D. 1112

This record is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 37, Nandana, Karttika, Punname, Monday, lunar eclipse. The details correspond to A.D. 1112, November 4, Monday, f.d.t.70. But there was no eclipse on that day.

The inscription records a gift, by Dandanayaka Anantamayya, for the maintenance of the quarter for dancing girls (sule-geri) constructed by him, attached to the Temple of Somesvaradeva at Purigere when his brother-in-law Sripatiyarasa was Governing the Two-600 division, viz., Belvola-300 and Purigere-300. The gift-land Was purchased from the Mahajanas of the nagara (i.e. Purigere) and the Gavundas.

Slab set up in a ruined temple in Survey No.6  

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI)—A.D. 1117

This record is dated in the cyclic year Hemalambi, Vaisakha, su. 5. Sunday, in the Reign of the King. This corresponds to A.D. 1117, April 8, Sunday, f.d.t. 07.

The inscription states that Amrita-Pattavarddhana-Vasudeva-Ghalisasa and his wife Chamiyakka consecrated the image of Kesavadeva with the consent of the Mahajanas of Kalkere which had been made into a sarvvanamasya-agrahara by Mahapradhana, Dandanayaka Kalimarasa and endowed a gift of land to the same.

BALAMBID, HANGAL TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT  

Slab set up in the Ramesvara temple  

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI)—A.D. 1118

This record is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 41, Hemalambi, Phalguna, su, 5, Sunday, corresponding to A.D. 1118, February 27, Sunday f.d.t. 91.

The inscription records a gift of land and garden for the benefit of the temple Of Gramesvara by Barmmagavunda of Ballareyabidu, who was the subordinate of Mahamandalesvara Tailahadeva of the Kadamba family governing Banavasi-12000 And Panumgal—500 and by the other prajes of the place. The gift was entrusted to Amritarasi-pandita, the acharya of the temple. It further records other gifts of Oil and income from taxes to the same temple by the 1000 tambuligas and others.

Slab set up in the compound of Bhairappa temple Vikramaditya VI—A.D. 1118

This record is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 43, Vilambi, Bhadrapada, su. 6, Va[ddavara*] corresponding to A.D. 1118, August 24, Saturday.

The inscription, which is engraved in continuation of No. 71 above, registers a Gift of taxes by the tax-officer Samisetti to the temple of Svayambhudeva for Offerings and perpetual lamp. It also records other gifts to the same temple.

Slab built into the will of the backyard of the Taluk Office  

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI)—A.D. 1118

This damaged record is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 43, Vilambi, Pushya, su. 11, Sunday, Uttarayana-samkramana corresponding to A.D. 1118, December 25. The weekday was, however, Wednesday.

The inscription records a gift of income from certain taxes to the temple of Ramesvaradeva of Rajadhani Puligere by Sadaverggade Sovarasa at the instance of Dandanayaka, charasa who was governing Puligere-300. The gift was Entrusted to Samavedi-Pandita, the acharya of the temple. It further records Other gifts by the aivattokkalu and other individuals for the same temple.

Broken slab built into the wall at Melina-matha  

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI)—A.D. 1119

The extant portion of this fragmentary record gives the details of the date as [Vi]Kari, Vaisakha, Amavasye, [Tuesday]. These details are irregular. For the cyclic year falling in the reign of Tribhuvanamalla, the tithi corresponds to A.D. 1119. May 11, Sunday.

The inscription seems to record a gift of land and garden to a deity (name lost) Made after purchase.

Slab (No. 49) in the Archaeological Museum  

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI)—A.D. 1120

This record is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 46, Sarvvari, Asvayuja, Amavasya, Monday, solar eclipse corresponding to A.D. 1120, October 24, the weekday being Sunday.

The inscription records a gift of land to the temple of god Mulasthana, built by Dandanayaka Somarasa , the prabhu of Sindige, by Mahamandalesvara Kumara Jayakarnadeva and Manneya Singarasa.

Tribhuvanamalla ( Vikramadiya VI ) ----A. D. 1122 

This badly damaged record is dated Chalukya – Vikrama year 4 [7], Plava, Phalguna, Amavasya, Sunday, Samkramana, solar eclipse. It corresponds to A. D. 1122, March 10. The weekday was, however, Friday and no Samkramana occurred on that day.

The inscription records a gift of land to god Somesvara by Dandanayaka Nagavarmmayya after purchasing  it from the 120 mahajanas of Puligere. One senapati Sovideva is mentioned.

BEJADUR, KUNDGOL  TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Slab lying in front of Kalamesvara  temple [ Vikramaditya VI ] ----A.D. 1122

This damaged record is dated Sake 1045, Subhakrit, . . . . Amavasye, Friday,solar Eclipse, the name of the month being lost. The date is irregular. In the cyclic year Subhakrit which, however, corresponds to Saka 1044, no solar eclipse occurred Whereas in the previous year Plava, a solar eclipse occurred in the month  of Phalguna when the weekday was Friday. The intended date  may  be, therefore, A. D.1122. March 10, Friday.

The inscription which falls in the reign –period of Vikramaditya VI, registers a gift of land, garden and money to god Mulasthana of the agrahara Kisuvare by several individuals whose names are specified. In the beginning it seems to refer to [Jaya] Kesideva of the Kadamba family who, it is known, was a feudatory of Vikramaditya VI. .

Slab set up in the backyard of the Taluk Office  

Tribhuvanamalla ( Vikramaditya  VI ) –A. D. 1123

This record is dated Chalukya –Vikrama year 48, Sobhakrit, Ashadha, Amavasya, Monday, Dakshinayana – samkramana corresponding to A. D. 1123, June 25. The Samkramana occurred on the next day and the month was adhika Ashadha.

The inscription records a gift of land to Agastyapanditadeva, the disciple Samavedipandita  for  feeding and maintenance of the teacher who was teaching Kaumara- vyakarana and his students in the matha attached to the temple of Ramesvaradeva at Puligere, by Dandanayaka Nagavarmayya, after purehasing the Gift – land.

BALAMBID, HANGAL TALUK, DHARWAR  DISTRICT

Slab set up in Baladevara Gudi Tribhvanamalla ( Vikramaditya VI ) __A. D. 1123

This record is dated Chalukya–Vikrama year  47, Sobhakrit, Paushya, su. 5, Monday, Uttarayana –samkranti, solar eclipse corresponding to A. D. 1123, December 24. But there was no solar eclipse on the  preceding  Amavasya.

The inscription records  a gift of land., for offerings and worship to god Brahmesvara by Baumagavunda who had the temple constructed at Ballareya- bidu when was under his administration the gift was made over to Vimalasaktipandits who was the disciple of Nirvvasaktideva, the acharya of the Matha attached to the temple of Chikkesvara. The latter is said to have been the rajagara of Mahamandalosvara Tailapadeva who was governing Banavasi –12000 and Panumgal –500 provinces.

HARE – BEVINUR, INDI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab set up in Siddharamesvara Temple  

Tribhuvanamalla  ( Vikramaditya  VI )  ---A. D. 1124

This record is dated Chalukya – Vikrama year 49, Krodhi, Chaitra ba. 5, Thursday, corresponding to 1124 A. D., April 5, the weekday being Saturday and not Thursday.

The inscription records a gift of land, money, etc., to Devasakti – pandita on the occasion of the consecration of the image of  Bhogesvaradeva at Hiriya – Bevinur by Mahamandalesvara Dakarasa of Tarddavadi belonging to the Silahara family. It also Registers other gifts of taxes to the same temple by the Settis, Mummuridandas, and Ubhaya- nanadesis of the 36 village and also by the Five Hundred of the place. The king is stated to have been ruling from Jayantipura.

KADLEVAD,SINDGI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Broken slab lying in the Svamilinga temple  

Tribhuvanamalla ( Vikramaditya VI) --- A.D. 1125

This record is dated Chalukya Vikrama Year 50, Visvavasu, pushya su. 6, Sunday, Uttarayana-samkramana. The details given are irregular. The tithi corresponds to A.D.1125, December 3, Thursday whereas the Samkramana occurred on Friday, the 25th December.

The inscription records the gift of the village Sembevada for the benefit of the temple of Svayambhu  Somesvara of Kadalevada, by the king who was ruling from Jayantipura and his subordinate Mahamandalesvana Simgarasa of the Siyala family. The gift village is stated to have been situated  in the kimpana of Kummasi-30 included in the division of Tarddavadi-1000.

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya  VI)---(Date lost)

This record, lower portion of  which is lost, seems to register a gift to god Somesvara of Kalkere by Jayasinga, a subordinate of Dandanayaka Govindarasa who was administering Banavasi---12,000 and the Vaddaravula taxes under Mahapradhana Dandanayaka Anantapalayya who was governing the Two 600 districts, Banavasi-12,000, Palasige-12,000, and the Vaddaravula and Achohu-pannaya taxes of the Seven and a half lakh country. It contains a description of Govindarasa. The Details of the date are all lost.

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI ) ---( date lost )

The date portion, except the mention of Sunday, is lost in this damaged record. The inscription states that  Mahamandalesvara Govanadevarasa attacked the Sarvanamasya- agrahara Chetturage, while administering the country in conjunction With twelve nayakas from his capital at Kannavalli ; killed the dayadas there and Established his uninterrupted rule. It records a gift income from taxes due to his family, i.e.. Selara-kula, from that village to the mahajanas of that place Govanadevarasa is mentioned as the servant of  Jagadekamalla.

Slab built into the left wall of Ramalinga temple  

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya Vi ) ---( Undated )

This undated inscription is in Kannada and Sanskrit languages. It records That the king granted several lands out of the dasavanda and other lands set apart For himself, for the renovation of, and worship in, the temples of Divakaresvara and Somesvara, for a water –shed, a tank, a well and an educational institution for children, Attached to the temple of Divakaresvara at Mallagana which he had given away to Divakarabhattopadhyaya as a survvanamasya gift. The latter was the son of Sankarabhatta and grandson of Vasudevadvivedi-bhatta, and Devalakabba was his Wife. The record contains an eulogy of the king.

Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI)—(Date Lost)

This fragmentary inscription records a gift of land and house-site to god Kamkesvara of Khedage by Lakshmadevi, wife of Tribhuvanamalla, and daughter of Kam koja and his wife Masanikavve-nyakiti. Contains the prasasti of a Silhra chief (name lost).

Broken piece of a slab from Madhava-hola at Kadkol now kept

in the house of Mr.W.T.Apte Tribhuvanamalla (Vikramaditya VI ?)

This fragmentary record in characters of about the 12th century seems to record Certain gifts by Tribhuvanamalla. It mentions the four hundred mahajanas of the Agrahara of Jambukhamdi.

Fragment of a slab built into a wall of Gangadharesvara temple [Tribhuvanamalla ?]

This fragmentary record refers to the reign of a Chalukya king.  .  .  .  . Malladeva. The details of the date, etc., are lost. It mentions a gift to Kaloja, son Of Bammoja who is called the Sutradhari of God Svayambhu.

KADLEVAD, SINDGI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab lying in the Svamilinga temple Bhulokamalla (Somesvara III)—A.D. 1127

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 2, Plavamga, Pushya, su. 5, Sunday, Uttarayana-Samkranti, corresponding regularly to A.D. 1127, December 25. The inscription states that the king who was ruling from his capital at JayantiPura, paid a visit to the temple of Svayambhu Somanatha at Kadalevada and made A gift of income from Melalke of the village Himchageri situated in Bagavadi 30 A kampana of Alande-1000 Divisions. The gift was entrusted to Gangarasideva.

Bhulokamalla (Somesvara III)—1128

This record is dated Chalukya-Bhulokamalla year 53, (wrong for Chalukya-Vikrama Year), Kilaka, Sravana, su. 5, Sunday, lunar eclipse. The date is irregular. The tithi Corresponds to A.D. 1128, July 4, Wednesday, but there was no eclipse either on the Preceding or following Purnima.

The inscription registers a gift of land for the benefit of an educational institution (ghalige) attached to the temple of Svayambhu Dakshina Somanatha at rajadhani pattana Puligere, by Mahamandalesvara Jayakesideva.

Slab No. 49 in the Archeological Museum  

Bhulokamalla (Somesvara III)—A.D. 1129

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 3, Kilaka, Pushya ba. 10, Thursday, Corresponding regularly to A.D. 1129, January 17.

The inscription records a gift of gold for worship and offerings to god Mulasthana. Of Sindige by Dandanayaka Vayijanathayya, the Karaas, Manneya Sovarasa and Kalamarasa of the Manneya of Sindige-12, Kummase-30, and Amkulage-50, when Mahamandalesvara Permadideva of Tarikadu was governing Tarddavadi-1000 province.
