KAMADHENU, KALGHATGI TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Slab lying in front of the Kallesvara temple  

Bhulokamalla (Somesvara III)—A.D. 1129

This record is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 54, Saumya, Chaitra su. 2, Monday, Samkranti. The tithi corresponds to A.D. 1129, March 23 which was Saturday. The Mesha-samkranti occurred on the next day.  

The inscription records a gift of land and money to god Kalidevasvami of Sasalu By Mallisetti of Hulivara when Mahamandalesvara Jayakesideva of the Kadamba Family was governing Komkana-900 and Palasige-12000 divisions. The gift land Which was purchased by the donor from Somesvara-bhatta, the son of Narayana- Bhatta, the urodeya of Sasalu, and two others, was entrusted into the hands of Tejorasi-pandita, the disciple of Devarasi-pandita, the acharya of the temple. The Record gives a genealogical account of the donor.

Pillar in the Karibasappana-matha  

Bhulokamalla (Somesvara III)-A. D. 1132

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 7, Paridhavi, Jyeshtha, Punname, Wednesday, corresponding to A.D. 1132, May 31. The weekday was, however Tuesday.

The inscription states the rules for constructing houses (in the temple site) Made by Indrakirti-pandita, the archarya of Mahasthana Goggiya-basadi, perggade Malliyanna,the devaputrakas and the aruvattokkalu headed by Lakkisetti. It Also records a gift of land to the pujari of the basadi by Hemadevabadya.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year (lost), Paridhavi, Magha, [su.] 5, Sunday, the details corresponding to A.D. 1133, January 13, Friday, instead of Sunday., The inscription records a gift of land by Dandanayaka Vaijanathayya, the Perggade of Tarddavadi-nadu and Dandanayaka Kalidevayya, the prabhu of [Tadavalage ?] for a tank.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 8, Pramadi, Sravana, Amavasye, Solar eclipse, Monday, corresponding to A.D. 1133, August 2. The weekday was, However, Wednesday.

The inscription records a gift of land and also income from taxes to god Svayambhudeva of the agrahara village Mallagana for worship and offerings, by Mahamandalesvara Singarasa, who was the subordinate of the king’s father TribhuVanamalladeva.

Called Bhimesvara-betta Bhulokamalla (Somesvara III)—A.D. 1134

This record is dated Saka 1056, Ananda, Ashadha, Amavasye, Solar eclipse, Corresponding to A.D. 1134, July 23, Monday.

The inscription records a gift of land and house to god Svayambhu BhimesvaraDeva by certain gavundas whose names are lost. It refers to a Dandanayaka and to a prabhu of Maniyur. The king is stated to have been ruling from his capital at Kalyana.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 9, Ananda, Karttika, su. [6] Thursday, corresponding to A.D. 1134,October 25.

The inscription records a gift of land, oil-mail, garden and house-site to the Temple of Chandesvara, after consecrating the image, by Chandimarasa of ChikkaNadu. It also records a gift of toll income from the Mummuridandas to the same Temple.

Slab built into the wall of the backyard of the Taluk Office  

Bhulokamalla (Somesvara III)—A.D. 1138

This damaged record is dated in the king’s regnal year 13, Kalayukta, Marggasira, Punnami, Monday, lunar eclipse, samkramana. The date is irregular. In the cyclic Year Kalayukta, the given tithi fell on Friday, November 18, A. D. 1138. There was Neither lunar eclipse nor Monday, November 29, A. D. 1137, but the other details do not Agree.

The inscription registers a gift of the kirukula taxes and the gold income due From the devabhoga of  the village Nitturu, made in favour of the god Svayabmhu Dakshina- Somanathadeva at Purikara,by Jayakesidevarasa of the Sagara family, in Conjunction with the One Thousand, headed by Tantrapala Chattimayya- nayaka,.to the sthanacharya Jnauasoma-panditadeva in the presnce of Dandanayaka Chiddarasa, Mahadevarasa and Mahajanas of rajadhani-pattana Purigere, etc.

This record is dated in the cyclic year Siddharthi, Ka[rttika], Punnami, Monday, Uttarayana-samkramana. The details are irregular. The tithi corresponds to A. D. 1139, November 7, Tuesday and the said samkramana did not occur that day.

The inscription records a gift of land to god Mallikarjuna at the agrahara Village [Ka]takanahalli by Tarkika-Chudamani Kesava-pandita and Madhava- Pandita. The gift was entrusted to Aditya – Ghaisasa.

Two fragments of a slab standing in the Taluk Office Jagadekamalla II --- A. D. 1139

This records is fragmentary. The details of the extant portion of date are the cyclic year [Siddharthi ], Pushya, su. 5, Thursday. This corresponds to A. D. 1139, December 27,the weekday, however, being Wednesday.

This inscription seems to register a gift of land to god Nagesvaradeva. It Mention Ketoja and Nagoja and also two Jaina preceptors Nandi – bratish and Tejondhi – bratisa.

DEVARNAVADGI, SINDGI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab standing in Mallikarjuna temple Jagadekamalla II ---A. D.1140

This record is dated the 2nd regnal year, Siddharthi, Pushya, Paurnamasya, Sunday, Lunar eclipse, Uttarayana-samkranti, The date is irregular. The tithi Corresponds to A. D. 1140, January 6, Saturday, and the samkranti occurred on December 25 of the previous year, the weekday being Monday. The said eclipse Did not occur on either of the days.

The inscription, which is badly effaced, because of a thick coat of oil, records a Gift of land, etc., made by Mahamandalesvara Sovidevarasa of the Selara family Who was the manneya of Elamela – nadu, at the instance of Perggade Davaraja to The temple of Mulasthana Mallikarjunadeva built by the latter at Navidige in Elamela-nadu-30. It gives a genealogical account of both these persons.

Slab lying near the house of Guribassappa Kumbin Jagadekamalla II ---A. D. 1144 ( ? )

This damaged records is dated in the regnal year of king which is lost the extant details of the date are Pushya, Amavasya, Monday, Uttarayana- sankranti, Solar eclipse. During the reign of this king, the eclipse occurred on the said tithi, in A.D.1144, December 22, which be might be the probable date of this record. the Weekday was, however, Tuesday.  

The inscription contains a second date, the only available details of which Are  Ashadha, Amavasya.

The inscription seems to records a gift of land, house- sites, and to god Gavarevadeva of the agrahara of Savesi ( also referred to as Tapasi- grama ) by the Four- Hundred Mahajanaswho are praised in the beginning. It also records a gift Of income from certain taxes by the Five- Hundred Svamis of Ayyavole and the One Thousand Tambuligas  to the same deity, made over to Isanasakti- pandita, an acharya Of the Kalamukha sect. The records which contains an eulogy of these svamis seems To register another gift on the seconds date. But the details are all lost.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 9, Akahaya, Ashadha, ba.11,Sunday, Corresponding to A. D. 1146, July 6. The weekday was, however, Saturday.

The inscription states that Kammara Santoja fought and died following the Death of Nalprabha Ketisetti of Kalkere at Sirivolal in a fight with the people of Kagenele.

Hero-stone set up near the Somesvara temple Jagadekamalla II ---A. D. 1146

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 9, Akshaya, Ashadha, be. 11, Sunday, Corresponding to A. D. 1146, July 6, The weekday was, however, Saturday.

The inscription is incomplete and seems to record the death of a son of Keta Following the death of Nalprabhu Keti [setti] of Kalkere at Sirivolal during a fight With the people of Kagenele. Cf. No.113 above.

Slab built into a wall in the Ramnga temple Jagadekamalla II—A. D. 1146

This record is dated in the king's regnal year 9, Akshaya, Pushya, su. 6, Monday, Uttarayana-samkranti. The date is irregular. The given tithi corresponds to A. D. 1146, December 10, Tuesday, but the samkranti occurred on December 25, Wednesday.

The inscription registers a gift of land, garden, oil-mill, shop, house-site and Income from herijunka to the temple of Svayambhu- Ramesvara, built at Erangal by The three brothers, Kesiraja, Dasimarasa and Viyyarasa. The gift was made by Mahamandalesvara Soyidevarasa of the Silara family, Apparasa, Naudimarasa and Herggade Nakarasa. It gives an account of the three brother, mentioned above. Cf.No.116 below.

YARGAL (BHUJRUKH), SINDAGI TALUK, BLJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab set up in Ramalinga temple Jagadekamalla II—A. D. 1146

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 9, Akshaya, Pushya, su. 6, Monday, Uttarayana-samkranti. In the given cyclic year corresponding to A. D. 1146, the given Tithi fell on December 10, Tuesday,  while the samkranti occurred on December 25, Wednesday, the tithi being ba. 5. The intended date might be A. D. 1146, December 26, Thursday, when the tithi would be ba. 6.

The inscription records a gift of land for the upkeep and repairs of a tank, Constructed by Santisetti, by Mahamandalesvara Soyidevarasa of the Silara family, Apparasa, the prabhu of Erangal, Nabdimarasa and perggade Nakarasa. It gives A genealogical account of Apparasa and Nandunarasa. The king is stated to be Ruling from kalyana. Cf. No. 115 above.

LAKSHMESVAR, SHIRHATTI TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Slab built into the wall in the backyard of the Taluk Office Jagadekamalla II—A. D. 1147

The record is dated in the king’s regnal year 10, Prabhava, Ashadha su, 12 Thursday, Dakshinayana-sankramana. Su. 12 seems to be a mistake for ba. 12 Because the said sankramana occurred on the latter day. Then the date of the record would regularly correspond to Thursday, 26th June, A. D. 1147.

The inscription registers certain gifts of lands in Kunduravalli and Huligere Made by Dandanayaka Mecharasa when Dandanayaka Kesimayya was governing Belvola -300, Huligere – 300, Halasige – 12,000 and Hanungal-500 and when Jayakesideva of the Manala family was the manneya of Huligere-nadu.

The record was composed by Karnnatasukavi Mukhya-pandita and engraved by Chavoja, the eldest son of Jinnoja of Puligere.

This badly damaged record is dated in the king’s regnal year 11, Vibhava, Chaitra, Su. 15, Sunday, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A. D.1148, April 4, Sunday, f.d.t. . 98.The eclipse, however, did not occur on that day,

The inscription records a gift  of paddy (?) by the Gavundas, Aruvattakkalu and Others. It further records a gift of income from taxes, to the basadi at Kuyyabala by Herggade Madiraja and Adityanayaka at the instance of an officer (name lost) who Was a Mahapradhana and Dandanayaka.

The inscription records a gift of land, house-site, and income from taxes to Worship and offerings in the temple of Madhavesvara, built by Madhava- Ghaisasa a The agrahara Mallagana, situated in Kummasi-30,  a kampana included in arddavadi- 1000 province, by the urodeya Gangeya-Mahadeva- Bhattopadhyaya and the prabhus and Mahajanas of the place.

Chalukya- Pratapachakravati ( Jagadekamalla II ) ---( Date lost )

This damaged record, in characters of about the 12th century A. D., refers to the Chalukya king with the title Pratapackravarti but his name is lost. He was Probably Jagadekamalladeva II who had this title. The inscription seems to record gifts of several urittis of land to the individuals mentioned as also to some temples. All details are lost.

Trailokyamalla ( Taila III ) ---A. D.1153

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 2, Srimukha, Ashadha, Punname, Monday, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A. D. 1153, July 6, Monday, f.d.t. 5.6. The Eclipse occurred on the next day.

The inscription records a gift of money to the temple of savayambhu Dakshinasomanatha of rajadhani-pattana Purigere by Mahamandalesvara Vira-pandyadeva who was the hiriya-manneya of Haligere-300, Mahamandalesvara  Jayakesidevarasa and One Thousand body (parigraha) of the place for their own welfare. The gift was made over to Jananasoma-panditadeva,the acharya of the temple. Virapandyadeva is said to have belonged to Yadu-vamsa.

Trailokyamalla (Taila III) –A.D.1154

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 6, [bhava], pusya, su 24, Friday  Uttarayana samkranti. The tithi occurred on A.D. 1154, December 20, Monday whereas the samkranti occurred on December 25,Saturday.

The inscription refers to the Mahajanas o f[ Go] tte, a sarvanamasya-agrahara. The details are lost as the record is built in.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 3, Visvasu, Maerasira, su. 9,Monday,corresponding to A. D. 1185, December 2, Monday.

The inscription records the death of settima-nayaka, a servant of Chaladam karama Madisetti of Kalukere during the cattle-rain made by  tailahadeva of Devangeri. Cf . Nos. 125 and 126 below.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 3, Visvavasu, Marasira, su. 8, Monday, corresponding to A. D. 1185, December 2 .

The inscription records the death of Boppana, a servant of Chaladankarama Madisetti during the cattle-raid of Kalukere by Tailahadeva of Devamgeri. Cf. No. 124 Above and No. 126 below.

This record is dated in the regnal year 4 of Tribhavanamall Vira- Somesvara, Parabhava, Chaitra su 8, Monday, corresponding to A. D. 1186, March 30. The Weekday was, however, Sunday.

It commemorates the death of the hero Sankeya-sahani, a servant of Madisetti, In a fight at Kundugola, when Madisetti raided the letter fort.

Tribhuvanamalla ( Somesvara VI ) –A. D. 1186

This record is dated Saka 1108, Parbhava, Chaitra, Paurnima, Friday, lunar Eclipse, corresponding to A. D. 1186, April 5. The weekday, however, was Saturday,The inscription records a gift of income from taxes, etc., of the Melalke –mamneya  of the village Navidige situated in the kampana of Kummasi-30 in Traddavadi-1000 division, to god Svayambhu Somanatha of Kadalevada for worship,Offerings, etc., by the king, who was camping at Gokage, in conjunction with mahdpasayith Kumara Bommidevarasa, his maternal uncle Mahapradhana, Dandanayaka Goyindamayya, and Mahamandalesvara Anemarasa of Silara family, who was governing Yelamela. The gift was entrusted into the hands of Sovarasi- pandita, the acharya of the temple.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 4, Parabhava, Chaitra, Punnami, Sunday, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A. D. 1186, April 5. The week-day was, However, Saturday.

The inscription records a gift of income from taxes, of manne and melalke by Mahamand lesvara Kopparasa and others to god Svayambhu-Somanatha of Kadalevada for worship, offerings, etc., The gift was entrusted to Sovarasideva,The acharya of the temple.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 6, Plavamga, Chaitra,  ba. 1, Thursday, corresponding to A. D. 1187, March 26, Thursday, f.d.t. 08.

The inscription records that the image of Chenna-Bramesvara was recon- Secrated and a gift of land was made for the deity by the Mahajanas, Muliga, Entu-Hittu and others headed by Somaya of the agrahara  of Kummatage.

On a pillar in the ulsava hall in the Somesvara temple Somesvara IV –A. D. 1187

This damaged record is dated in the king’s rengal year 2, Plavagma. Pushya, Punname, Thursday, Uttaraynaa-samkranti, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A. D. 1187, December 17. There was no eclipse on this day and the samkranti occurred on December 26.

The inscription registers a gift of oil by the Ayvattakkalu to the temple of Kattamesvaradeva and also a gift of betel – leaves and money to the temple by the Five- Hundred. The gift was made over to Aghorasaktideva.
