Broken hero-stone near the temple of Kallesvara

This damaged inscription records the grant of nettarugeyi in recognition of the valour of Asagara Someya-Nayaka who died in a fight at Haveri.  It belongs to the 13th century A.D.

Hero-stone near the temple of Hanuman on the river bank

This inscription of about the 13th century A.D. commemorates the death of macheya-Nayaka probably in a fight at Haveri.

Hero-stone near the temple of Jaganatha

This damaged inscription records the setting up of a hero-stone in memory of Madappa who died in a fight.  The characters of the record belong to the 13th century A.D.

The record states that a Brahmapuri was established by Dannayaka Nagarasa son of Sadeva.  Ayyavale is mentioned. The characters are of about the 13th century A.D.

Slab set up against the front wall of the temple of Kattala Mallapa

This inscription, engraved in characters of the 13th century A.D., is dated in Saumya, [Chaitra] su. 10, Thursday.  The Saka year is not given.  It states that this (te slab on which it is written) is the nisidi stone commemorating the death of Bachisetti, son of Savanara Bommisetti and the disciple of Jinachandradeva.

This fragmentary inscription contains in Nagari Characters the imprecatory verses of a record.  The verses are in Sankrit.  The characters are of the 13th century A.D.

Nandi-pillar near the Hanuman temple

The purpose of this fragmentary and worn out inscription is not clear. It seems to record a grant of land in the presence of certain Prabhugavundus and others.  The characters belong to about the 13th century A.D.

Hero-stone set up near the Kalamesvara temple

This inscription records a grant of land as nettarugeyi in memory of Kaliga and Siriga who died during an attack on Menasinakere.  The grant was made by Kallanna and others in the cyclic year Chitrabhanu, Magha su. 15, Monday.  The Saka year is not given.  The characters belong to about the 13th century A.D. Kallanna is stated to have been the maneyadhikari of Ketanna-Nayaka.

Hero-stone in the Kallesvara temple

This inscription commemorates the death of the son of Ketabova of Nituru in a fight during an attack on Heburu.  The date of the record is the cyclic year Chitrabhanu Jyeshtha su. Ashtami.

This record mentions Deveya-Nayaka, son of Chavudeya-Nayaka.  The characters belong to about the 13th century A.D.

Pedestal of a broken Jaina image in the Nagaresvara temple

This record, which belong to the 13th century A.D. states that Rajavve, daughter of Jemisetti, installed (the image of) Kalpa-Jinendra.  Jemisetti is stated to be the disciple of Traividya-Narendrasena.

This record in Nagari characters of about the 13-14th century A.D. contains a Sanskrit verse in praise of god Hari.

Pedestal of a Jaina image (C-1) in the museum

A.D. 1310

The inscription is dated in Saka 1232, Sadharana, Jyeshtha 6, Monday.  The fortnight is not given.  The date probably corresponds to A.D. 1310, May 5, Monday; f.d.t .51

It is written in Nagarai characters and Sankrit language and states that a certain ruler named Krishnadeva installed the image of a Jaina saint (name lost) who was the (spiritual) son of Mallideva of Mula-samgha and Nigamranvaya.

A.D. 1320-21

This inscription in Nagari characters and Marathi language is dated in Saka 1242 Raudri correspond to A.D. 1320-21.  It is published in the Memoirs of the Archaeological Survey of India No. 49,

Stone near the Bharamadeva temple

A.D. 1375

This record, dated in Saka 120[7], Rakshasa, Margasira ba. [13], Monday records a grant of land to Kalamadeva.  The tithi cited correspond to A.D. 1375 December 21, Friday (not Monday as stated in the record).

Two pieces of a broken slab lying in front of the Hanuman temple

A.D. 1393

This inscription is dated in Saka 1315, Srimukha, Kartika su. 15, Sunday, corresponding to A.D. 1393, October 19, Sunday, f.d.t. 53

It states that Dharanapa-Nayaka, son of Nagadeva-Raneya made a grant of land for offerings to the goddess [Da]kkanathi (?) devi of Harihara.  Nagadeva-Raneya is stated to be the adhikari of Mamaapa-Odeya, son of Padumukhi Bavappa-Odeya.  The grant is stated to have been made at the command and in the presence of (god?) Hariharadeva.

Broken stone set up in the gate-way of the temple of Hanuman

This fragmentary record registers a gift, probably of money, for burning lights before a god (name lost).  It is engraved in characters of about the 14th century A.D.

Hero-stone set up in Kallesvara temple

This inscription dated in the cyclic year Ananda, Kartika su. 12, records the death of a hero (name lost), who was the son of Bojaya, Nayaka.  The characters are of about the 14th century A.D.

Sati stone on the tank bund

This inscription records the death by Sahagamana of Chimmyi, wife a Harikara (name lost) in the cyclic year Bhuva, Jyeshtha ba. 9, [Tuesday].  The Saka year is not given.  The characters belong to the 14th century A.D.

Stone on the tank bund

This damaged inscription states that Narase-Nayaka of Kamkati, made a grant of land at Haligere for the offerings to a goddess (name lost)

The details of the date preserved in the record, viz., Saka 132 Jyeshtha ba. 30 . . . . . . solar eclipse, are insufficient to find out the equivalent.

Stone near the village gate

This inscription records the installation of the deity Ramayi (?) in the cyclic year Pingala, Chaitra ba. 9, Saturday, by Banada-boti, wife of Kase-Bova of Kuluvanur (modern Kulenur).  The record is engraved in characters of about the 14-15th century A.D.

Hero-stone standing in front of the temple of Kallesvara

This records states that a hero (name lost), who was the son of Amri[ta]-Nayaka died in a fight on Thursday, Kartika su. 8, in the cyclic year Bahudhanya.  The characters belong to the 14-15th century A.D.

Hediyal, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Sati stone on the bund of Sannakere

A.D. 1404

This inscription dated in Saka 1326, Tarana, Chaitra su. [5], Sunday, states that Made-Nayaka installed the mahasati slab in memory of his mother Malidevi who died by the rite of samadhi on account of the death of her husband (name lost).

The details of the date correspond to A.D. 1404, March 16, Sunday.

A.D. 1414

This inscription dated in Saka 1336 No. 411

Kulenur, Haveri Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone near the village gate, Jaya, Sravana su. Tuesday records the grant of land given as nettarugeyi to the family of a certain Hobbaya, who died in a fight in Trailigere.  The details of the date correspond to A.D. 1414, August 24 or 31.  The given week-day (i.e., Tuesday) occurred twice in the fortnight.

Chalgeri, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Slab lying in the threshing floor of Valikar Basappa

A.D. 1417

This inscription is dated in Saka 1339, Hemalambi, Vaisakha su. 1, Monday, corresponding to A.D. 1417, April 18.  The week-day was Sunday and not Monday as stated in the record.

It states that when Chavudaya, son of Koteya-Nayaka, died (probably in fight for the settlement of the boundary?) of Mudiyanur and Tiraligere, Hampanna-Odeya, son of Mamgappa-Odeya, ordered that a grant of land be made to the family of the deceased.  The grant was made at the request of Bularasa and others.  Bularasa was the adhikari of Hariharadeva.

Bankapur, Bankapur Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone leaning against the front wall of the temple of Basavanna at Sahazar, a suburb of Bankapur

A.D. 1476

This damaged inscription is dated in Saka 1399 (expired), Durmukhi, Kartika ba. 5, corresponding to A.D. 1476, November 6, Wednesday (not verifiable).

It states that [Babali]-Nayakitti, wife of Immadi Singe-Nayaka and daughter of Bhimisettiya-Mayanna and Sitamma built a well for the merit of her daughter Demarasi, who died an unnatural death.  The major portion of the record which is damaged extols the merit, in Sanskrit, of making a gift of water (udaka-dana)

(B.K. No. 138 of 1932 – 33)

Karajgi, Haveri Taluk, Dharwar District

Brokens one built into the front wall of the house of Siddappa Koti

This damaged record is dated in Chaitra su. 10 of (probably) the cyclic year, Vikrama.  It seems to state in Saka [1]566, Dhatu, the Desayi of Devaguri and Karajige made a gift to god Chenna-Basavesvaradeva of Kukanur.  The latter date is wrong because the cyclic and the Saka years given do not tally.

Hediyal, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Hero-stone on the bund of Sannakere

This damaged inscription commemorates the death of Mallaguda in the cyclic year Subhakrit, Vaisakha ba. 5.  The village Yatagiri is mentioned.  In the absence of the Saka year, it is not possible to find out the equivalent of the date.  The characters belong to about eh 15th century A.D.

Kadarmandalgi, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Hero-stone in front of he Hanuman temple

This damaged inscription seems to refer to the setting up of (the hero-stone depicting) Timmayya-Nayaka by Ammajayya-Nayaka.  Timmayya died in a fight when Kadiramandalage was attacked.

The record is dated in the cyclic year [Vi]shu, Vaisakha su.  The Saka year and other details of the date are not given.  The characters belong to about the 15th century A.D.

Ranebennur, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Slab built into a step of the Hanuman temple near the Venkatesvara temple

This fragmentary inscription records a grant of land in Ratehali-sime by a person (name lost)_ of the Joyisa family. He belonged to the Asvalyana-sutra-Maduveya-sumka (marriage tax) is mentioned.

The character belong to about the 15th century A.D
