No. 379
(A. R. No. 23 of 1930-38)
SURIYA, PUTTUR TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT
Pedestal of the Nandi in front of the Sadāśiva temple
[1497 A.D.]
This record in characters of about the 15th century, is dated the
cyclic year Piṅgala, Mithuna 17, Sunday. It states that the image of
Nandikēśvara was set up in the temple at Sureya by Nārayaṇa
Sēnabōva, son of Saṅkuvadhikāri of Nūje, in the reign of Vīra
Narasiṅga-Lakshmapparasa alias Baṅgaraja Voḍeya. As this chief was
ruling in the latter half of the 15th century, the cyclic year mentioned
in the record may be equated with 1497 A.D. But the other details
are irregular as the given tithi corresponded to June 14 of that year
when the weekday was Wednesday.

No. 380
(A. R. No.364 of 1930-31)
MAṬṬU, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT
Slab set up in the Vishṇumūrti temple
1499 A.D.
This is dated Śaka 1421, Siddhārthi, Kārttika-paurṇami, corresponding to 1499 A.D., October 19. The details, however, cannot
be verified.
It registers a gift of money income and probably also some land
to god Kōṭinātha by Basavarasa-voḍeya who appears to have got the
temple repaired, when he was ruling Tuḷu-rajya. As the record is
damaged, the details are lost.
