TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

No. 189

(A. R. No. 70 of 1943-44)

SAṆḌŪR, SANDUR TALUK, BELLARY DISTRICT

Slab (No. 3) lying in the compound of the local court

Sadāśivarāya, 1544 A.D.

This records the remission of siddhāya and kāṇike taxes, levied on the barbers of the sīme, to Timmōja and Koṇdōja of Chippagēri and also Śivanōja of Soṇḍūru-sīme, by mahāmaṇḍalēśvara Rāmarājadēva- mahā-arasu, at the command of the king.

It is dated Śaka 1446, Krōdhi, Chaitra śu. 10, The Śaka year cited appears to be a mistake for 1466 which corresponded with the cyclic year Krōdhi. The tithi fell on 1544 A.D., April 3. But in the absence of the weekday the details are insufficient for verification.

1 ಜಯಾಭ್ಯುದಯ ಶಾಲಿವಾಹನ ಶಕವರು-

2 [ಷ] 1446 ನೆಯ ಕ್ರೋಧಿ ಸಂವತ್ಸರದ ಚೈತ್ರ ಶು 10

3 ಮಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಮನ್ಮಹಾರಾಜಾಧಿರಾಜ ರಾಜ ಪರಮೇಸ್ವರ ಶ್ರೀ ವೀರಪ್ರತಾಪ

4 ವೀರ ಸದಾಸಿವದೇವ ಮಹಾರಾಯರ ನಿರೂಪದಿಂದಲು ಶ್ರೀ ಮನ್ಮಹಾ ಮಂ-

5 [ಡ]ಳೇಸ್ವರ ರಾಮರಾಜ ದೇವಮಹಾ ಅರಸುಗಳು ನಂಮಕರಿಸಿ ಚಿಪ್ಪ-

6 ಗೇರಿಯ ತಿಂಮೋಜ [ಕೊಂ]ಡೋಜನವರಿಗೆ ಮೆಚಿ ಪಾಲಿಸಿದ ವಿವ-

7 ರ ಸೀಮೆಯೊಳಗೆ ನಾಯಿಂದರು ತೆರುವ ಸಿದಾಯ ಕಾಣಿಕೆ

8 ಎಲ್ಲವನೂ ಸರ್ವಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಪಾಲಿಸಿಬಿಟೆಉ ಸೊಂ-

9 ಡೂರ ಸೀಮೆ[ಗೆ] ಸಲುವ ನಾಯಿಂದರ ಸಿವನೋಜಗೆ

10 ವಂಶಪಾರಂಪರೆಯಲು ಸರ್ವ್ವಮಾನ್ಯಯಿದ-

11 ಕು ತಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಸಾಲುಂ[ದ]ರ ಮಕ್ಕಳು | ಶ್ರೀ

..ĀVARŚE, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Stone set up in ‘Keḷa-maṭha’

Sadāśivarāya, 1544 A.D.

This slightly worn out record registers gift of lands for worship, offerings and burning a perpetual lamp in the maṭha at Kīrāḍi by Chimma-seṭṭi. [Vōbha]ḷarāja-voḍeya is stated to have been ruling Bārakūru-rājya.

It is dated Śaka 1466, Krōdhi, Śrāvaṇa ba. 1, Sunday coreesponding to 1544 A.D., August 3, Sunday f.d.t. .02
