TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 590 of 1929-30)

ĀRŪR, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the prākāra of the Vishṇumūrti temple

Dēvarāya II, 1447 A.D.

This is badly damaged record dated Śaka 1 . . ., Kshaya, Kārttika śu. 1, Tuesday. The cycle year Kshaya corresponds to Śaka 1368, when the tithi occurred on 1446 A.D., October 21, Friday. But in the next year, Pṛabhava, the given details correspond regularly to 1447 A.D., October 10. The latter might be the intended date of the record.

It seems to register a gift of money income for feeding brahmins in the maṭha, by Kuppaṇṇa-voḍeya who was administering Bārakūru-rājya at the instance of mahāpradhāna Mādaṇṇa-nāyaka (?). The gift was made in the presence of the god. Mārkaṇḍēśvara of Kōṭeya-kere. It refers to the residents of Beḷaṁpaḷi who probably agreed to pay the amount regularly.
