KOKKARAṆI, UDIPI TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Broken slab lying on the roadside

Dēvarāya II, 1443 A.D.

This damaged record registers a gift of land to god Śaṅkaranārāyaṇa of Koḍage by Gōvinda-seṭṭi nephew (2) of Bemmṇancha, during the period of Nāgaṇṇa-Toḷaha when Timmaṇṇa-voḍeya was governing Bārakūru-rājya.

It is dated Śaka 1356, Dundubhi, Phālguṇa, ba. [4, Monday]. The given Śaka year coincides with the cyclic year Ananda when the other details do not tally. The cyclic year Dundubhi in the reign of this king coincides with Śaka 1364 when the details correspond to 1443 A.D., February 18. The Śaka year given must be, therefore, a mistake for Śaka 1364.
