TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 467 of 1928-29)

SŌMĒŚVARA, MANGALORE TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the west verandah of the prākāra of
Sōmanāthēśvara temple

Dēvarāya II, 1442 A.D.

This damaged record is dated Śaka 13[65], Dundubhi, Chaitra śu. 1, Monday corresponding to 1442 A.D., March 12, f.d.t. .52. The Śaka year was, however, current.

It record gifts for worship and offerings in and repairs to the temple of god Sōmēśvaradēva when Triyaṁbakadēva-voḍeya was governing Maṅgalūru-rājya. It mentions the royal preceptor Kriyāśaktidēva and seems to refers to gifts by members of several communities like the Baṅgas, Chavuṭas and Chuṅchas. The latter portion of the epigraph is badly damaged and the details are lost.
