is an incomplete inscription of Parantaka I ( Madiraikonda
Parakesarivarman ) recording some gift made for burning a lamp in
the temple by serupadan Subrahmanyan a resident of Kulittandalai in
Kurumbur-nadu. This place is evidently the same as Kulittalai near Karur
in the Tiruchirappalli district. No.22

Parantaka I : year 41 :947-48 A.D.
This
is dated in the reign of parakesarivaraman âwho took Maduraim and Ilam.â
It records a gift of 15 kalanju of gold by a lady named Kayilayan Utti
the wife of Eluvan Pidavan a merchant of the place, for burning a lamp
in the temple. With this amount a piece of land seems to have been
purchased by the temple. The details are lost in the damaged portion.

the sacred bath of the god Madeva-Bhattarakar of Tiruvisalur in
Vembarrur alias Avaninarayana-chaturvedimangalam, during the

I : year 30 : 936-37 A.D. This is left incomplete stopping with the mention of some provision for burning a lamp in the temple of Tiruvasalur-Perumanadigal. No. 61 (A. R. No. 61 of 1907) Kattamanchi, Chittoor Taluk, Chittoor District On a rock in a garden known as Navabu-topu Parantaka
I: year 31 : 937-38 A.D. This is dated in the 31st year of Madiraikonda Parakesarivarman (Parantaka I) and registers the sale of some land under the tank free of all taxes, also of another plot irrigated by means of water lift in the village Kilai-Kattamachchi in Tuynadu, to a resident of the village by the urar (assembly) of the place. |

195 (A. R. No. 195 of 1907) Tiruvidaimarudur, Kumbhakonam Taluk, Tanjavur District Mahalingasvami temple â on the same wall Parantaka I : year 38 : 944-45 A.D. This is an incomplete
inscription. It mentions a dry land measuring 2-3/4 veli and belonging to
the temple of Tiruvidamarudi â Alvar with its boundaries specified. Among these was a channel branching off from the old course of
the river (Palankavir). Reference
is also made to an inscription of the affairs of the temple by one
Tirupadatperundinai , the agent of Irumu[di]sola-Pullavaraiyar of
Tiruvidaimariudil . No.
201 (A. R. No. 201 of 1907) Tiruvidaimarudur, Kumbhakonam Taluk, Tanjavur District Mahalingasvami temple â on the same wall Parantaka
I : year 20 : 926-27 A.D. This record an
endowment of 40 kalanju of gold by one Eran Aiyaran of of Mulaiyur in Milalainady
for ponagam and porikkari offerings to the deity during the early morning service in
the temple of Mulasthanattu-Mahadeva. The sabha of Tiraimar received about half the amount and the
Urar
of the devadana of Tiraimur, the balance, and from this investment 60
kalam of paddy was payable every year as interest. The Sabha
held itself responsible for measuring a
padakku of paddy into the temple every morning. No.

I : year 37 : 943-44 A.D. An inscription of the same year recording the improvement effected to a (temple) land for making it cultivable by one Kavaramoli Madevan alias Tondaradippodi. The yield from this land seems to have been intended to meet the expenses of worship of the (goddess) Bhattaraki. No.

I : year 37 : 943-44 A.D. This inscription seems to record a decision of the Sabha of Tiraimur, the Nagarattar of Tiruvidaimarudil and some other dignitaries, who had met in the Natakasalai of the temple, to set apart the income from a certain (temple) land for the purchase of 180 nali of oil required for burning lamps in the temple on the three festival days every month viz. days of Arda and Satabhishaj and on Amavasya. Reference is made to the administration (araychchi) of one Vasudevanar of Kurumbil. No.

It seems to register gifts of lands made by some persons to the
temple, including a plot of 9 ma
granted by a lady who is called a Talaikkoli
( a title of distinction in music). Mention is made of a daughter of one Talichcheri Devanar, but it
is not clear whether these two names refer to one and the same person. No.

No.222 above in the 37th year but the kingâs name is not
given. It is damaged in
places. It refers to
Vasudevanar of Kurumbil and to some provision made by way of land-gift
for burning eight lamps every night during the sribali
offerings in the nataka-salai of the temple. No.
227 (A. R. No. 227 of 1907) Tiruvidaimarudur, Kumbhakonam Taluk, Tanjavur District Mahalingasvami temple â on the same wall Parantaka I : year 37 : 943-44 A.D. This refers to the same (officer) Kurumbil Vasudevanar as in No. 222 above mentioned. It records a division by the Sabha and Nagarattar and others assembled in the nataka-Sali to burn a dipamala of seventeen lights in front (of the central shrine) every night beginning with twilight and ending with the midnight service of the deity, with the income derived from two plots of dry land and 4 ma of garden land, given on lease to a merchant by name Mayan sankaran of Kumaramarttanda-puram. |

This is damaged and seems to register an endowment of 28 kalanju and odd of gold by one Tali Kumaran of Tengur in Nalangilinallur-kurram to provide for feeding two Brahmanas in the temple daily with the interest thereon, and another gift of money for burning two perpetual lamps, before the deity. I : year [3]6 : 942-3 A.D. This is damaged in places. It seems to register an endowment of 15 kalanju of gold with the interest on which 30 nali of ghee was to be supplied to the temple on the day of Tiruvadirai in Margali month. The donor was a native of Irumbedu in Pagalur-nadu a division of Sengattu-kottam in Tondai nadu. No.

I : year 17 : 924-5 A.D. This records an
agreement of the Nattar (assembly) of Tiruvilai-nadu to measure out once
every year in their own place, 360 kalam of paddy
(to a representative of the temple) for the daily offerings to the deity
(in their name) during the three service in the temple. No.

temple â on the same wall This is a damaged record probably of the same king (Parantaka I), mentioning a gift of 91 sheep for a lamp. The temple authorities who received the gift agreed to make an offering of rice in addition, to the deity on the day of Pushya in the month of Tai. |

941-2 A.D. The inscription gives
the exact day of the transaction as 214 of the regnal year. It is damaged.
Mention
is made of a theft of the golden bowl and a fillet from the temple and
of their replacement, after recovering their cost (?) from those who
were probably responsible for it (by negligence). No.
252 (A. R. No. 252 of 1907) Tiruvidaimarudur, Kumbhakonam Taluk, Tanjavur District Mahalingasvami temple â on the same wall Parantaka I : year 38 : 945-6 A.D. This registers some
provision made for a perpetual lamp in the temple by one Anukkan Araiyan
for the merit of Arinjigai-Pirattiyar. This princes was the grand daughter of the king, being the
daughter of Arikulakesari (Arinjaya) and was married to a Bana chief, in
whose memory she made a gift to the temple at Tirunagesvaram in the
reign of Parantaka II Sundara-Chola (Vide S.I.I.,
Vol. XIII, No. 197). No.
258 (A. R. No. 258 of 1907) Tiruvidaimarudur, Kumbhakonam Taluk, Tanjavur District Mahalingasvami temple â on the same wall Parantaka

A.D. This seem to record
an endowment after purchase of 2 veli
of land called the vanjittottam,
made by the assembly of Paradayakkudi in Nariyur-nadu, part of it being
meant for providing for the expenses of a festival in the temple in
honour of Varaguna-Vitankar (Nataraja) in the month of Vaigasi, and the
balance for the maintenance of musicians who were to play on instruments
during the early morning and other services in the temple. Refers to Kari Nakkanar as the agent of the king in
Kongu. No.

Naraiyurnadu. An ulakku of oil was to be measured out every day in the temple
by a person appointed by the Sabha

315 (A. R. No. 315 of 1907) Tiruvisalur, Kumbhakonam Taluk, Tanjavur District Sivayoganatha temple â on the same wall Parantaka
I : year 23 : 929-30 A.D. This records a gift
of 190 sheep by Purvadeva-Adigal, for burning two perpetual lamps in the
temple of Perumanadigal at Tiruvisalur in
Amaninarayna-chaturvedi-mangalam a devadana
and brahmadeya on the northern
bank (of the Kaveri) and provision for three more lights, one before
Aditya-Pidarar, (Sun-God), one before Kutta-Peruman (Nataraja) and one
in the Tirukkavanam hall. The
donor is referred to as the mother of the king (Rajakesarivarman) in No.
333 of 1907 assigned to Parantaka II Sundara-Chola. She must have been the consort of prince
Arinjaya. (Vide S.I.I. Vol. XIII, No. 271). No.

I : year 24 : 930-21 A.D. This registers a sale
of 1/8 veli of land situated to the north of Tiruvisalur to a certain (body
?) Kadanangattar of Tanjavur in Tanjavur-kurram by two (brothers)
Vadugan Manram and Vadugan Kali of Velimanallur in Urrukkattukkottam a
division of Tondai-nadu. This
transaction between the two parties should have been effected for the
benefit of the temple for the record to be engraved here. No.
