No. 229.

(A.R. No. 699 of 1919.)

ON A SLAB LYING NEAR THE HANUMARADONE AT RAMADURGA, ALUR TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated the 8th year of the reign of the Chalukya king Bhulokamalladeva, cyclic year Ananda, Jyeshtha, su. 3, Sukravara corresponding to A.D. 1134 April 19 Saturday, not Friday, as stated.  The month was adhika.  During the rule of Garudasetti of Saudore, Gonaya-Nayaka consecrated the god Kalideva of Machikavvanabetta and made a gift of (the land called ?) Henukanahalu.  Garudasetti consecrated the goddess Bhairavabhagavati and made a gift of 4 mattars of land, an oil-mill, a house and a flower garden for the service of the god Kalideva.

ON A SLAB LYING IN THE COURT-YARD OF THE BHIMESVARA TEMPLE IN THE SAME VILLAGE.

This is dated the 8th year of the reign of the Chalukya king Bhulokamalladeva, Ananda, Ashadha, su(?) amavasye, Somavara, Vuatipata, Sankranti, Surya-grahana, corresponding to A.D. 1134 July 23 Monday when there was a solar eclipse; Simha-sankranti fell on the 28th of the month.  His feudatory, the Mahamandalesvara Irungola-Cholamaharaja issued orders to the Mahapradhana Garudasetti to make a gift of 6 mattars of land, a flower garden, an oil-mill, and a house for the service of the god Bhimesvaradeva, set up by the Vaddavyavahari Bivisetti, son of Baputisetti and Bammikavve and for the feeding and clothing of the ascetics Ketarasi and Madhavarasi.

ON A SLAB LYING IN THE COURT-YARD OF THE FOUR-TEMPLES AT KOLIMIGUNDLA KOILKUNTLA TALUK, KURNOOL DISTRICT.

This is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year[5*]8, Ananda, Uttarayana-sankranti corresponding to A.D. 1134 December 25 Tuesday, (not verifiable) It refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Bhulokamalladeva ruling from Kalyana and mentions his feudatory Vankana-Cholamaharaja ruling from Nandyala.  The latter is said to have made a gift of 2 mattars of land, a flower garden and on oil-mill for the service of the god Kesavadeva, set up by Muppirati, the chief of Kolmagudi, and for the subsistence of the priest Vasyana-Bhatta.  The writer was Revaraja and the engraver Bammoja.

ON A SLAB SET UP ON THE TANK-BUND OF THE VILLAGE UBACHERLA, GOOTY TALUK, ANATAPUR DISTRICT.

This is dated the 10th year of the Chalukya king Bhulokamalladeva (ruling from Kalyana), Rakshasa, Jyeshtha, su. 3, Adivara, corresponding to A.D. 1135, May 27 Friday, not Sunday, as stated.  The Mhapradhana Senadhipati Sandhivigrahi Barmadevayya, the Hergade Guttiya-Dandanayaka Sambudeva, Savasi Anadabhatta of Palyea, Sairajabhatta, Sonubhatta, the Mahapradhana and Dandanaaka Kalimayya, Nayaka Recharasa, Ramadeva-Nayaka, Malleya-Nayaka Bacharasa and Dasimarasa together with Kuchi-Setti, made a grant, on account of Uttarayana, of some land and on oil-mill for the service of the gods Jakkesvaradeva and Kesavadeva.  Ketumalla-Setti, Polli-Setti and Desimanta-Manavala made a gift of 500 leaves, for the service of the god Jakkesvara.

ON A SLAB SET UP IN THE COURT-YARD OF THE SANKRASAVAMI TEMPLE AT ERADUKERA, KALYANADRUG TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated Saka 1060, Siddharthi, Margasira, su. 5, Adityavara corresponding probably to A.D. 1139 November 27 Monday, not Sunday, as stated.  Siddharthi was Saka 1061 expired.  The record refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Jagadekamalldeva ruling from his capital Kalyana, whose feudatory Irungola-Cholamaharaja was ruling from Goydavadi.  The latter’s Mahapradhana and Senadhipati Ketana-Vergade, noted for his charities, made a gift of a number of plots of land and of certain taxes (specified) for the service of the god Sankaradeva at Eradukere in Suliyanuru seventy, a sub-division of Sire-nadu, and some vrittis to Brahmans and ascetics, after washing the feet of the teacher, Nagarasi-Pandita.  The names of some ascetics are given in the record.

ON A SLAB SET UP NEAR A MOSQUE IN THE BAZAAR OF THE VILLAGE KONAKONDLA, GOOTY TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated the 2nd year of the reign of the Chalukya king Pratapachakravarti Jagadekamalla (II), Siddharthi, Phalguna, su. 10 [Soma]vara corresponding probably to A.D. 1140 February 28 Wednesday; f.d.t.. 34.  Somavara is probably a mistake for Sumyavara.  The Mahamandalesvara Irungolarasa, Malla[rasa], Nirugarasa, Balarasa and Recharasa are said to have caused the construction of the temple of the god Kesava and granted some land for the service of the god.

ON A STONE SET UP NEAR THE MALLESVARA TEMPLE AT SINDIGERI, BELLARY TALUK, BELLARY DISTRICT.

This is dated 4th year of the Chalukya king Jagadekamalladeva (II), Durmati, Bhadrapada, su. 6, Adivara corresponding to A.D. 1141 August 9, Saturday, not Sunday as stated.  The Mahamandalesvara Rachamallarasa of Ballare and his subordinate Kesiyanna are said to have made a grant of some portion of the toll-revenue for feeding pilgrims in a satra and placed it in charge of Nirvanadeva, a Kalamukha teacher.

(A.R. No. 393 of 1920.)

ON A STONE SET UP IN THE VILLAGE DONEKALLU, GOOTY TALUK, ANANTAPUR DISTRICT.

This is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year, 65, Durmati, Jyeshtha, su. 10, Adityavara, corresponding probably to A.D. 1141 May 17, Saturday, not Sunday.  It refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Tribhuvanamalla-Permadideva ruling from his capital Kalyana.  Vijayaditya-Gavunda, son of Ayyapa-Gavunda, is stated to have set up the god Viravijayaesvara and made a grant of 12 mattars of land, a house, a flower garden and on oil-mill for the service of the god.  The record is damaged.  The king who was ruling in this year was Jagadekamalla II.  It is not know whether he had the surname Tribhuvanamalla.

ON A STONE IN FRONT OF THE MALLESVARA TEMPLE AT SINDIGERI, BELLARY TALUK, BELLARY DISTRICT.

This is damaged and incomplete and dated the 4th year of the Chalukya king Jagadekamalldeva (II), cyclic year Durmati, Bhadrapada, su. 6, Adityavara corresponding to A.D. 1141 August 9, Saturday, not Sunday.  It seems to record the gift of some land for a feeding house.

ON A SLAB SET UP NEAR THE WEST WALL OF THE VIRABHADRA TEMPLE AT HOLAL, HADAGALLI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated the 5th year of the reign of the Chalukya king, Jagadekamalladeva, Dundubhi, Ashadha, su. 1 So (i.e., Somavara) corresponding probably to A.D. 1142 May 27, Wednesday, not Monday.  It records that Anukapallavaraya, an officer under Vira-Pandyadeva, Savideva and his father Uyyavanda-Dandanayaka made a grant of the toll on three lakhs of arecanuts, for the service of the god Gavaraesvaradeva of Gandaradityana-Holal.

ON A SLAB LYING IN A FIELD NEAR CHINNA-TUMBALAM, ADONI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated the 5th year of the Chalukya king Jagadekamalldeva (II), the cyclic yer Dundubhi, Srvana, punnami, Adivara, Soma-grahana corresponding to A.D. 1142 August 8, Saturday, not Sunday, there having been a lunar eclipse on Saturday.  The one hundred and forty Mahajanas of Tumbula are said to have made a grant of some land for the service of the god Kesavadeva, consecrated by Arasiyakka.  The record is a little damaged.

ON A SLAB SET UP IN THE COURT-YARD OF THE RAMALINGA TEMPLE AT GURUZALA, SAME TALUK AND DISTRICT.

This is dated the 5th year of the Chalukya king Jagadekamalladeve (II), Dundubhi, Pushya, su. 6, Sukravara, Uttarayana-sankranti, corresponding to A.D. 1142 December 25 Friday.  Under the orders of the Mahapradhana Dandanayaka Kesimayya, his son the Dandanayaka Chiyamaras is said to have made a gift of land for the service of the god Ramesvara at Gurindala in Manchalu thirty-six, a subdivision of Adavani five-hundred.  Kesimayya is also stated to have been Herilala-Sandhivigrahi and in charge of Manadadi-nadu, Miriti-nadu, Kosage-nadu, Galidirala, Kallakelagu-nadu, Kollihake-nadu and Sindavadi-nadu.

ON A SLAB LYING NEAR THE BHOGESVARA TEMPLE AT RAMADURGA, ALUR TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated the 5th year of the Chalukya king  Jagadekamalladeva (II), Dundubhi, Magha, punnami, Somavara, Soma-grahana, corresponding to A.D. 1143 February 1 Monday, on which day there was a lunar eclipse.  Under the orders of the Mahapradhana and Sandhivigrahi Kesimayya-Dandanayaka ruling over Manadadi-nadu, Miriti-nadu, Kosage-nadu, Galidirala, Kallakelagu-nadu, Kollihake-nadu and Sindavadi-nadu, his son and subordinate the Dandanayaka Chiyamarasa is said to have made a grant of the village Honnanahalu for the service of the god Bhogesvaradeva of Indavali and placed it in charge of Bhogarasi-Pandita, the acharya of the temple.

ON A SLAB SET UP IN FRONT OF THE ANJANEYA TEMPLE AT AMBALI, KUDILIGI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated Saka 1065, Rudhirodgari, Pushya, punname, Somavara, Uttarayana, Vyatipata.  In Rudhirodgarin, Pausha su. 15 corresponded to A.D. 1143 December 23 Thursday, not Monday; the Uttarayana day fell on December 25 Saturday.  The record refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Jagadekamalladeva (II) ruling from Kalyana and states that, while his feudatory the Mahamandalesvara Jagadekamalla-Virapandyadeva was ruling over Nolambavadi thirtytwo-thousand, Chibidevarasa, son of Ghattideva of the Kadamba dynasty made a gift of land for the service of the god Narasimhadeva consecrated by Jnanaprakasa-Bhattarakadeva at Ammele.  The record is damaged.

(A.R. No. 701 of 1919.)

ON A PILLAR LYING IN THE COURT-YARD OF THE ANJANEYA TEMPLE AT HALHARIVI, ALUR TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated the 6th year of the Chalukya king Pratapachakravarti-Jagadekamalladeva, Rudhirodgari (=A.D. 1143-44), with no other details.  The Dandanayaka Chiyamarasa is said to have made a grant of land for the service of the god Areya-Sankaradeva, consecrated by Savi-Gavuda and Sankara-Gavuda.  An oil-mill, a house and a garden are also said to have been granted.

ON A PILLAR LYING NEAR THE KALLESVARA TEMPLE AT BADA, A HAMLET OF BENNEHALLI, HARAPANAHALLI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is damaged and dated 7th year of the reign of the Chalukya king Jagadekamalladeva (II), Raktakshi, Sravana, su.15, Soma-grahana corresponding to A.D. 1144 July 16, when there was a lunar eclipse.  A certain Pubbarasa is said to have made a grant of some land and a matha for the service of the god Nonambesvara.
