ON A SLAB SET UP NEAR THE WEST WALL OF THE VIRABHADRA TEMPLE AT HOLAL, HADAGALLI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is very much damaged and dated Saka 996, Ananda, Uttarayana-sankranti, corresponding to A.D. 1074 May 31 Tuesday (not verifiable), and refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Bhuvanaikamalladeva (Somesvara II).  It records that the 120 Mahajanas of the village Gandaraditya-Chaturvedimangala, together with the Telligas, Mummuridandas and Settis, made a grant of land for the service of the god Gavaresvaradeva.  The five-hundred svamis made a voluntary contribution of some cesses on commercial articles.

No. 140.

(A.R. No. 475-A of 1914.)

ON THE SAME SLAB.

This is dated Saka 996, Ananda, Pushya, su. 2, Budhavara, Uttarayana-sankranti corresponding probably to A.D. 1074 December 24, Wednesday.  Bidige may be a mistake for Chaturthi.  It is incomplete.

No. 141.

(A.R. No. 118  of 1913.)

ON A SLAB SET UP INSIDE THE MUKTESVARA TEMPLE AT NILAGUNDA,  HARAPANAHALLI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 4, Kalayakukti, Magha, su. 5, Adivara, Uttarayana-samkranti, Vyatipata.  The date is not regular.  In Kalayukti, Magha su. 5 fell on a Thursday nor was it the day of Uttarayana-sankranti.  If, however, su. 5 is a mistake for su. 15, the date would correspond to A.D. 1079 January 20 Sunday.  This also was not the day of Uttarayana-sankranti.  The inscription refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Tribhuvanamalladeva (Vikramaditya VI).  It records that, while his feudatory Tribhuvanamalla-Rayapandyadeva was ruling over Nolambavadi thirtytwo-thousand and Kaniyakallu three-hundred from the nelvidu of Uluva, the Brahman Mahajanas of Nirgunda made a grant of land for the service of Mulasthana-Svayambhu-Ramesvara of Haleyahalu.  The five-hundred merchants of the place made a gift of a kani per load of betle leaves.

It also records that in the Chalukya-Vikrama year 61 Nala, su. 10, Somavara, Uttarayana-sankranti, Vyatipata corresponding to A.D. 1136 January 3 Sunday (not Monday), the Totigas, Konekaras, Telligas and others made money contributions at the rate of a paga per uli and per ladder and a sotige of oil per oil-mill for the service of the god.

In the cyclic year Jaya, Pushya, su. 14, Somavara, Uttaryana-sankranti corresponding probably to A.D. 1174 December 9 Monday, Uttarayana-sankranti falling on the 25th of the same month, the Mahajanas and others made a grant of land for the same purpose.

The last two gifts are evidently later additions.

No. 142.

(A.R. No. 523 of 1915.)

ON A STONE LYING NEAR THE SLUICE OF KARIM SAHIB TANK AT CHINNATUMBALA, ADONI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated [Chalukya-Vikrama year 4, Siddharthi, Jyeshtha, su. 10, Brihaspativara.  In Soddharthin, Jyeshtha, su. 10 corresponded to A.D. 1079 May 13 Monday, not Thursday as stated; but in Kalayukti, the tithi did fall on Thursday == 24th May A.D. 1078.  It refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Tribhuvanamalladeva and records that the Mahamandalesvara Joyimayyarasa made a gift to Sridhara-Bhatta when the former was ruling over Sindavadi thousand.  The record is damaged.

No. 143.

(A.R. No. 519 of 1915.)

(A.R. No. 70-A of 1904.)

ON A SLAB SET UP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SOUTHERN ENTRANCE TO THE CENTRAL SHRINE OF THE KALLESVARA TEMPLE IN BAGALI, HARAPANAHALLI TALUK, SAME DISTRICT.

This is dated Siddharthi. Bhadrapada, su. 13 Somavara in the reign of the Chalukya king Tribhu anamalladeva.  A certain Nagekalayya is said to have granted some land to the Majajanas.  The only Siddharthi during which the given detaills work out correctly is A.D. 1079 August 12, Monday; f.d.t. .28)

No. 145.

(A.R. No. 86 of 1904.)

ON ANOTHER SLAB SET UP ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE SAME TAMPLE.

This is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year, Siddharthi, Hyeshtha, amavasye, Vaddavara, Surya-grahana.  The date is irregular.  If Jyeshtha is a mistake for Pausha the details would regularly correspond to A.D. 1079, December 26, Thursday on which day there was a solar eclipse.  The inscription refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Tribhuvanamalladeva whose feudatory Pandyadeva is statted to have been ruling over Nolambavadi thirtytwo-thousand.  It records that, in the presence of the learned Mahajanas of the village Baguli, Bachaladevi, daughter Kaliyama-Gauda of Arasiyakere and wife of Piriyada-Pergade, made a gift of land for the service of god Kalideva of the village.  Piriyada-Pergade also made a grant of money and a portion of toll-revenue.

No. 146.

(A.R. No. 439 of 1924.)

This is dated Chalukya-Vikrama year 4, Siddharthi, Pushya, amavasye, Somavara, Uttarayana-sankranti corresponding to A.D. 1079 December 25, Wednesday.  Somavara is apparently a mistake for Saumyavara.  It refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Tribhuvanamalladeva.  His feudatory the Mahamandalesvara Mangarasa of the Chola family, whgo was ruling over Rodda three-hundred and Kaniyakallu three-hundred, is stated to have made a grant of land for the service of the god Panchalinga-Siddhesvara to the teacher Bevinajiya.  It is damaged.

No. 147.

(A.R. No. 430 of 1923.)

ON A RED STONE LYING IN FRONT OF THE SHRINE TO THE SOUTH OF THE CENTRAL SHRINE OF SANGAMESVARA AT SANGAMESVARA, NANDIKOTKUR TALUK, KURNOOL DISTRICT.

This is a little damaged and dated Chalukya-Vikrama year, 3, Siddharthi, . . . . . . . padiva, Brihaspativara, Uttarayana-sankranti probably corresponding to A.D. 1070 December 26 Thursday and refers itself to the reign of the Chalukya king Tribhuvana-malladeva.  It records that, while his feudatory, Bijana-Cholamaharaja, was ruling over Kanne three-hundred, Pedakal eight-hundred and Naravadi five-hundred, from Etageri, he made a gift of land for the service of some god (name lost) and for education and that he had the Adi[tya ?] temple constructed for the merit of his mother Somabbesani.

No. 148.

(A.R. No. 697 of 1919.)
