TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

No. 480

(A. R. No. 66 of 1943-44)

SAṆḌŪR, SANDUR TALUK, BELLARY DISTRICT

Stone (No. 2) lying in the compound of the local court

1748 A.D.

This is dated Śaka 1670, Vibhva, [Vaiśākha] śu. 10, Sunday. These details are irregular as the tithi corresponds to 1748 A.D., April 27 when the weekday was Wednesday.

It states that the village Sāṇḍūru was given as Vumiḷigi to Jamunāgiri-svāmi and that the latters samādhi was built by Giriyamma. The record is written both in Kannaḍa and Telugu languages.
