This inscription referring itself to the reign of Trailokyamalladeva is dated in the 3rd year of his reign, Prajapati, Bhadrapada Purnima, Monday, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A.D. 1151, August 28.  The week-day given is a mistake for Tuesday.

It records a grant of land to the god narasimhadeva of Jalamantapa in Vijapaura, by the Karnas headed by Pergade Mallideva.  Mahapradhana and Senadhipati Mailarayya and other Karanas who were the subordinates of Bijjala (of the Kalachurya family) are stated to be administering Tardavadi one-thousand.  Bijjala is stated to be the sub-ordinate of Trilokyamalla.

This inscription, which refers itself to the the reign of Trailokymalladeva, is dated in the 3rd year of his reign, Angira, Pushya Amavasya, Sunday, Uttarayana-samkranti, solareclipse.  The date is irregular.  In the cyclic year Angira corresponding to A.D. 1152, Pushya Amavasya fell on December 27. But it was not a Sunday, nor was there any eclipse or Samkranti on that day.

It records a grant of certain taxes to god Siddhesvaradeva of the agrahara town Haveri by Savasi Mayideva, jointly with five-hundred Banajigas.  Mayideva was in charge of thehejjunka and unddaravula taxes.  The grant was made in the presence of the four-hundred mahajanas of haveri.  Dandanayaka mahadevarasa is stated to be governing Huligere Three-hundred and Banavase Twelve-thousand.

A supplementary grant of money and taxes made by Machideva of the Jimutavahana lineae and Khachara family, the nargavunda of Basavur One-hundred-and-forty and by Hegade Rechana and others, is also recorded.  The gift was made for the offerings and a perpetual lamp to the same god.

(B.K. No. 103 of 1932-33)

Haveri, Haveri Taluk, Dharwar District

Slab near the Kallumantapa

Taila III-A.D. 1157

This inscription belonging to the reign of Trailokyamalladeva, is dated in the 8th year of his reign, Isvara, Pushya ba. 3, Monday.  Uttarayanasamkranti.  The details are irregular.  The tithi cited fell on December 20, A.D. 1157, which was Friday.  The Samkranti occurred on the 25th.

The record begins with the genealogy of the Chalukyas.  This account, however is faulty.  Ayyana and Jayasimha II are wrongly stated to be the son and grandson of Vikramaditya V; but actually they were his brothers.  The inscription states that Heggade Rudradeva and other Karnas made a grant of money and taxes to the tank a the agrahara town Havari.  Rudradeva is stated to be a subordinate of Kesiraja who was a subordinate of Kalachurya Bijjala, who it may be noted, already bears some of the paramount titles.  The tank is stated to have been constructed by the mythical king Nala in Kritayuga.  The Mahajanas of the place are highly praised.

Another grant by a Sunkaveggade (name lost) and Dandanayaka Ratnabhatta made to the tank and to the gods Siddhesvaradeva and Indresvaradeva is also recorded.

At the top is engraved a grant made to the Hiriyakere tank, in the 3rd year of the reign of he Kalachurya king Bijjaladeva on Ashadha ba. Amasvasya, Sunday.  The cyclic year is lost.

Taila III (Undated)

This inscription, referring itself to the reign of Trialokyamalla Nurmadi-Tailapa records a grant of land, made for the purpose of feeding the poor, by Kuppati Echisetti of Hemamgeri, a quarter of Narugunda.  Echiseti is stated to have been placed in charge of the mint (achchu) by the king and hence he was called Hema-Kuppati (i.e., a person casting gold-coins).  Narugundi, its Mahajanas, the Hemangeri and its Mahajanas as well as Echisetti and his family are highly praised.

Somesvara IV-A.D. 1184

This inscription dated in Saka 1106 and in the 3rd year of the reign of Tribhuvanamalla Vira-Somesvara, Krodhi, Kartika, Monday, solar eclipse corresponding regularly to A.D. 1184, November 5, Monday.  This date takes back the beginning of the reign of Somesvara to A.D. 1182.

It refers to the installation of an image of a god (name lost) and to certain grants made to that temple by Mahamandalesvara Hemmadidevarasa of the Yadava family in the 10th year of the reign of [jagadekama]lladeva, Prabhava, Phalguna su. Panchami, Sunday.  The cyclic year Prabhava coincides with the 10th year of Jagadekamalla II and in his reign the details correspond to A.D. 1148, February 25, Wednesday, f.d.t. .02.  In the next year, i.e.,  Vibhava, however, the given details correspond regularly to A.D. 1149, February 13, Sunday, f.d.t. .65.

It records a grant of land to some god (name lost) made by Gomadeva and Mahapradhana Bammideva.

The record is broken on the right side.

Somesvara IV-A.D. 1186

This inscription, referring itself to the reign of Somesvaradeva, is dated in the 4th year of his reign. Parabhava Margasira, Purnima, Monday, lunar eclipse.  The details are irregular.  The tithi given corresponds to A.D. 1186, November 28, Friday.  It may be noted however that in the given year, a lunar eclipse occurred in Asvina, corresponding to September 30.  The purnima of this month commenced on Monday at .37.  This probably is the date intended.  The mistake might be due to the engraving of the record at a later date.

It records a grant of land to the god Svayambhu-Kalidevasvami of Hosavur by Mahamandalesvara Vikramaditya of the Gutta family, his wife Sovaladevi, and Kala-gavunda.  The genealogy of the Gutta chief as well as of Kala-gavunda is given.  An allusion to Somesvara’s overcoming the Kalachuryas is made in the record.

This damaged inscription refers itself to the reign of Tribhuvanamalla Vira-Somesvaradeva and records a grant of land made by Mahapradhana Dasamarasa, Sandhivigrahi Bammiyana, Tantrahala (Tantrapala) Vittayya and Dandanayaka Kesavadeva, (after requesting?) Mahamandalesvara Vikramadityadeva of the Gutta family.  The gift was made in the presence of Rajaguru Kalyanadeva for the purpose of effecting certain repairs etc., to a temple (name lost).  Rajadhani  Guttolal (modern Guttal in Haveri Taluk) is mentioned.  The genealogy of Vikamaditya is given.

Somesvara IV (?)

This inscription, which contains numerous scribal errors, is dated in the 8th year of the reign of Chalukya-Chakravartin Tribhuvanamalladeva, Tarana, Kartika su. Dasami, Monday.  Among the kings who had the appellation Tribhuvanamalla, Somesvara IV had the title Chalukya-Chakravartin.  The cyclic year Taraana did not occur in his reign.  The icorrect date and the faulty engraving raise a doubt regarding the genuineness of the record.

It registers a grant of land to god Narasimhadeva of Vijayapura, made by Devarasa, the Mahaprabhu of that place.  The gift was made in the presence of the Mahajanas and others of the place.

Broken stone lying in the temple of Kalamesvara

(Date lost)

This badly damaged inscription refers itself to the reign of a Chalukya king.  The details of the date are lost.  The characters belong to 11th century A.D.

It mentions the Kadamba chief Maria.  The genealogy of this chief found in this record is as follows:  Chattu, his son Mavula and his son Kadamba-bhupati.  After him (probably his son) Satyasraya, his son Maira.  The other details of the record are lost.

The first two lines which apparently from a separate grant state that Mayuravarma (probably the same as Maira) made a grant of some taxes on the occasion of a solar eclipse on Sunday, Amasvaya of Sravana in the cyclic year Prabhava.  In the 11th century the given details of the date correspond regularly to A.D. 1087, August 1, Sunday.

(Date lost)

This inscription is dated in Chalukya-Vikrama year (lost).  The name of the cyclic year . . . . bhanu is partially preserved.  Other details available are Magha ba. Thursday.  The tithi is lost.  The years Chitrabhanu and Svabhanu coincided with A.D. 1102-3 and 1103-4 respectively.  Palaeography would also support this date, though there is nothing in the record to assign it definitely to the reign of Vikramaditya VI.

It records a grant made by Samkimayya-Na[yaka] and Mahadevabhatta.  The record is broken on the right side.  Lines 18 to 23 apparently contain a separate grant.
