TEXT OF INSCRIPTIONS

(A. R. No. 528 of 1928-29)

VARĀṄGA, KARKALA TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in the northern verandah of the outer prākāra of the Nemisvara-basti

Kṛisṇadēvarāya, 1515 A.D.

This record, in Sanskrit and Kannaḍa language, is dated Śaka 1437, Bhāva, Māgha śu. 5, Friday, corresponding to 1515 A.D., January 19, Friday, f.d.t. .35. The Śaka year, however, was current.

It states that Ratnappa-oḍeya who was governing the Tuḷu-rājya comprising of Bārakūru, Maṅgaḷūru and other areas, at the request of Dēvendrakīrtti-bhaṭṭāraka of Nandi-saṅgha, Balātkara-gaṇa and Sārasvata- gachcha and under the orders of the king thereon, had the fallow lands in the village of Varāṅga, formerly donated to the Nēminātha temple by king Dēvarāya, cleared of the forests and Akkamma- heggaḍati made over the same, along with all the fruit trees and others grown there, to the same temple Cf. No. 98 above.

1 ಶ್ರೀಮತ್ಪರಮಗಂಭೀರ ಸ್ಯಾದ್ವಾದಾಮೋಘ ಲಾಂಛ-

2 ನಂ | ಜೀಯಾತ್ತ್ರೈಲೋಕ್ಯನಾಥಸ್ಯ ಶಾಸನಂ ಜಿನಶಾಸನಂ ||

3 ಶ್ರೀ ಮೂಲಸಂಘೇಜಿನಿ ನಂದಿಸ [೦]ಘಸ್ತಸ್ಮಿನ್ಬಲಾತ್ಕಾರ ಗಣೋ ತಿ-

4 ರಮ್ಯಃ | ತತ್ರಾಪಿ ಸಾರಸತನಾಮ್ನಿ ಗಚ್ಛೇ ಶ್ರೀ ಕುಂಡಕುಂದಾರ್ಯ್ಯಮುನಿ-

5 ರ್ಬಭೂವ || ಕೇಚಿತ್ತದ್ವಂಶಜಾತಾಃ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಂಭೋನಿಧಿ ಪಾರ-

6 ಗಾಃ | ಪರವಾದೀಛ ಪಂಚಾಸ್ಯಾ ಆಚಾರ್ಯ್ಯ ಪದಸಂಸ್ಥಿತಾಃ || ತತ್ರಾ-

7 ಪಿ ಸಮಭೂದ್ವಾದಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾನಂದಾರ್ಯ್ಯ ಚಂದ್ರಮಾಃ ಪರವಾದಿ ಮತ-

8 ಧ್ವಾಂತ ಧುನ್ವನ್ ಕೌಮುದ ಮಾಭಜನ್ || ವಾದೀಂದ್ರಃ ಸಮಭೂತ್ಪ-

9 ಟ್ಟೇ ತದೀಯೇ ಧರ್ಮವರ್ಧಕಃ | ಮಹಂಮದ ಸುರಿತ್ರಾಣ ದತ್ತಯಾ ವಾ-

10 ದಿವೈಭವಃ || ವಿದ್ಯಾನಂದೋ ಮುನೀಂದ್ರೋ ಭೂತ್ತತ್ಪಟ್ಟೇ ವಿಶ್ರುತೇಭುವಿ ||
