VARĀṄGA, KARKAL TALUK, SOUTH KANARA DISTRICT

Slab set up in front of the inner shrine of Nēmīśvara basti

Dēvarāya II, 1424 A.D.

This record in Sanskrit and Kannaḍa languages is dated Śaka 1346, Krōdhi Pushya śu. 6, Wednesday, Makara-saṁkrānti corresponding to 1424 A.D., December 27.

It registers a gift of the village Varāṅga situated in Bārakūru- nāḍu, as sarvamānya by the king to god Nēminātha of Varāṅga-tīrtha, made over to Varddhamāna-bhaṭṭāraka, for worship in the temple and for the feeding of the preceptor and his disciples samudāya. The village was formerly endowed to the same temple but certain taxes which were still being collected for the royal treasury, were now exempted. The king is referred to as Vīrapratāpa Dēvarāya, son of Vīra-Vijaya-Bukkarāya.

1 ಶ್ರೀ ಮತ್ಪರಮ ಗಂಭೀರ ಸ್ಯಾದ್ವಾದಾಮೋಘಲಾಂಚ್ಛನಂಜೀಯಾತ್ರೈಲೋಕ್ಯನಾಥಸ್ಯ |

2 ಶಾಸನಂ ಜಿನಶಾಸನಂ || ಮೂಲಸಂಘೇ ಬಲಾತ್ಕಾರ ಗಣೇ ಸಾರಸ್ವತಾಭಿ

3 ಯಾಚ್ಚ್ರೀ ಭಟ್ಟಾರಕ ದೇಶಿಕಃ | ಭಾತಿ ಭಟ್ಟಾರಕೋ ಧರ್ಮ ಭೂಷಣೋ
..........ಗುಣಭೂಷಣಃ ಯದ್ಯಶಃ ಕು –

4 ಸುಮಾಮೋದೇ ಗಗನಂ ಭ್ರಮರಾಯತೇ || ತಚ್ಛಿಷ್ಯರು || ಶ್ರೀ ಭಟ್ಟಾರಕ
..........ಪಟ್ಟಬದ್ಧ ಮಹಿಮಾವಾದೀ –

5 ಭ ಕಂಠೀರವಃ ಕಾರುಣ್ಯಾರ್ಣ್ನವ ಕೇಮುದೀ ಸಹಚರಃ ಕಂದರ್ಪ್ಪ ದವ್ವಾಪಹಃ
..........ಕಲ್ಯಾಣೋದಯ ಚಂ –

6 ದ್ರನಾಥ ಚರಣ ದ್ವಂದ್ವಾರ್ದ್ರ ಚಿತ್ತಸ್ಥಿತಿರ್ದ್ದೇವೋ ದೇಶಿಕ ವರ್ದ್ಧಮಾನ
..........ವುಪುಷಾ ಜಾಗರ್ತ್ತಿ ಭಟ್ಟಾರಕಃ ||

7 ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ದೇವೇಂದ್ರ ವೃಂದ ಪ್ರಕಟತರ ಕರೀಟಾವಲೀ ಭಾನುಮಾಲೀ
..........ಲೀಲಾತ್ಪ್ರೋತ್ಫುಲ್ಲ ಚಂಚತ್ಪದ ಕಮಲ ಲಸಚ್ಛ್ರೀವಧೂ –

8 ಭೀ ಮನೋಜ್ಞಃ ಜ್ಞಾನಾಂಭೋರಾಸಿ ಶೀತದ್ಯುತಿರಮಲ ಯಶೋ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿ
..........ದಿಕ್ಚಕ್ರವಾಲಂ ಪಾಯಾಚ್ಛ್ರೀ ದೇವರಾಯಂ

9 ಪ್ರಭುಮನವರತಂ ನೇಮಿನಾಥೋ ಜಿನೇಂದ್ರಃ || ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಭುವನಾಶ್ರಯ
