PEDDAVEḶAGAṬŪRU, PUNGANUR TALUK, CHITTOOR DISTRICT

Pillar lying in the field in front of the Varadarājasvāmin temple

Vijaya-bhūpati (Bukka III), [1408 A.D.]

This is dated in the cyclic year Sarvvadhāri, Kārttika śu. 1, Sunday. On palaeographical grounds the record may be assigned to the 15th century. As maṇḍlēśvara Vijaya-bhūpati is identical with Vijaya (Bukka III), son of Dēvarāya I, the Vijayanagara king, the intended date of the record would be 1408 A.D., October 28, when the weekday, however, was Saturday.

It registers the gift of the village Hiriya-veḷagaṁṭūru in Velumālina- nāḍu as sarvamānya by the prince for the daily offerings and worship of the god Mallikārjunadēva and of the goddess Bhramarādēvi of Śrīparavata and for feeding daily ten brāhmaṇas thereat.
