Amritaghatesvara Temple-On The North Base Of The Central Shrine

Parak.  Rajendra-Chorla I – 15th Year  (A.D. 1028-29)

This begins with the introduction Tiru manmi valara etc. It records an endow ment of 140 kasu by a merchant of Gangaikondasolapuram by name Manikka-vaniyan Sandiran. Kidarangondasola Mayilatti, for the purpose of feeding with 2 mahesvaras after the midday offerings to the god. The amount was deposited with the mahasabha of Tirukkadavur. Ambar-nadu is here mentioned as a division of uyyakkondar-valanadu.

Amritaghatesvara Temple –On Th Eeast Base Of The Central Shrine

Rajak. Rajaraja-23rd Year (A.D.  1007-8) 

The inscription commences with the introduction Tirumagalpola etc. It records a sale of land made tax-free by the mahasabha of Tirukkadavur in Uyyakkondar-valanadu for 15 kasu received by them from the temple of Kalakaladeva, this amount seems to have been a gift (from the palace?) for burning a lamp called “Mummudisolan” (evidently after the king’s title) in the temple.

Amritaghatesvara Temple-On The Same Base

Parak. Rajendra-Chola I – 13th Year, (A.D. 1026) 

The introduction is Tirumanni valara etc., the list of conquests enumerated extending up to that of the Ganga.  The inscription records the gift of a golden kalasa set with 9 gems of high quality and weighing about 109 kalanju, to God kalakaladevar by one [Saga] ni Vadugan of Nallur in Nallur-nadu a division of nittvavinoda-valandau. This gift is said to have been got engraved to stone, by the sabha of Tirukkadavur on receipt of a royal order to that effect.

Par. Rajendra-Chola (I)-21st Year (A.D. 1034-35)

The inscription is badly damaged. It begins with introduction Tirumanni Valara etc., and seems to record some provision made for burning two lamps in the temple including one in the shrine of Durga, by the toll-collecting officers of Valaiyur on the north bank.

Par. Rajendra Chola (I) – 25th Year (A.D. 1096-37) 

This records an agreement given by the Nagarattur of Valaiyur alias Nitta-vinodapuram on the northern bank of the Peenai, situated in Vanagappadi alias mdurantaka-valanadu in Jayangondasolamand Ilam to the temple of Tantonri udaiya-Mahadevar, that they would meet the cost of burning the perpetual lamps and of the other requirements in the temple of which they had been (previously) committed, by means of certain specified imposts on their articles of merchandise.

Gramardhanatha Temple-On The Same Wall

Rajendra-Chola I – 13th Year (A.D. 1024-5)

This is stated to have its introduction Tirumanni valara etc. which is how-ever not given. It registers an endowment of 30 kasu to the temple of Urudaiya-paramesvara at Iraiyanaraiyur a brahmadeya and devanatchi (devadana?) in panurkurram a division of Maladu alias Jananatha-valanadu, made by an officer of the king by name Kilavan Chaturanar alias Vanavan-Muvendavelar who is Referred to as a native of Vannikudi in Kilchchembai-nadu a division of Rajaraja-Pandinadu. The sabha of the place who received the amount were to carry out the renovation of the Aindiram (Vahana) of the procession image of the god, the two side roads and the smaller and bigger mandapas with their walls lime and colour washed once in every ten years with the accumulated interest on the amount endowed, at 6 kasu per year (i.e. at 20 per cent per annum).

Gramardhanatha Temple-On The West Wall Of The Same Prakara

Rajendra-Chola I – 5th Year (A.D. 1016-17) 

The inscription begins with the introduction Tirumanni valara etc., It records an endowment of lands to the temple of Urudaiyar at Iraiyanaraiyur for the formation of a flower garden and for the maintenance of a garden who was to look after the same and to supply flower garlands daily, by Vasishtan tiruvarangan Tiruvarangan a resident of the place.  The donor is also stated to have appointed the person for hereditary service in the temple in this connection the writing and wording of the record seem to be later than the period of the king.

Par. Rajendra-Choladeva – 16th Year (A.D. 1027-28)

The inscription stops incomplete with the mention of the 16th regnal year of the king after giving at length his usual prasati beginning with the words Tirumanni valara etc. Parts of the inscription are lost.

Ruined Siva Temple – On The Same Wall.

Par. Rajendra-Chola I – 30th Year (A.D. 1042-43)

This records a gift of 90 sheep for a perpetual lamp in the temple of Mulasthanam-Udaiya-Mahadeva at Peringur a brahmadeya of Tirumunaippadi, a division of Rajendrasola-valalnadu by Pudi Ganapperuman and his son Ganap-peruman Devargandan, both resident at the village.

Par. Rajendra-Chola  (I) – 2nd Year (A.D. 1013-14).

Portions of the inscription are lost. It seems to record a gift of land to the temple at Peringur, a brahmadeya in Peringur-nadu of Tirumunaipadi, a division of Jayangondasolamandalam by a cavalry man (name not clear) of the commander  (Senapath) Raje[ndrasola]-Brahmamarayar, who got it exempted from tax by payment of a lump-sum to the sabha of the place.

This consists of a few disconnected pieces of writing, of which the first begins with introduction Tirumanni valara etc., of Rajendra-Chola’s records and seems to register a gift of land to the temple by one Uyyapiran-Bhattan.

Siva Temple – On The South Wall Of The Same Shrine.

Rajendra-Chola I – 32nd Year (A.D. 1043-44).

The inscription has the introduction Tirumanni valara etc. It is damaged. It registers a sale of land similar to that mentioned in No. 233 above, to the temple of Tiruppanangadudaiya-Mahadeva at Vanpakkam in [Kalu]mala-nadu by the sabha  of the place.

Manikanthesvara Temple – On The North, West And South Walls Of The Central Shrine.

Rajendra-Chola I – 21st Year (A.D. 1032-33)

The inscription begins with the introduction Tirumanni Valara etc. It is incomplete towards the end. It states that the Sabha of Puduppakkam in Purisai-nadu a division of Manaiyil-kottam had sold as tax-free devadana, 2750 kuli of land to the temple of Tirumalperudaiyar in Valla-nadu a division of Damarkottam for 30 kalanju (of gold), but the sale had been in abeyance without being executed till the 21st year of the king. In this year Nidur Karumanikkam a lady attached to the royal household donated 10 kalanju and 8 manjadi to the temple for which, after making a fore head plate for the god, 1000 kuli of the land was set apart for burning a perpetual lamp with the produce thereon. For another 10 kalanju and 9 manjadi donated by one Pugalarai of Marudattur in Tiruvali-nadu a division of Rajendrasimha-valanadu in Solamandalam, 1000 more kuli of the same land was assigned for a second perpetual lamp to be burnt in front of the god after making a similar tiruppattam (fore-head plate) like the one mentioned above for the deity.

Rajendra-Chola I – 21st Year (A.D. 1032-33)

This has also the same introduction Tirumanni valara etc. The latter portion of the record is very much damaged. It seems to register a sale of two villages as salabhoga to the temple at Tirumalperu in Valla-nadu a division of Damarkottam by the Perungudi-sabha of Nittavinoda-chaturvedimangalam in Menmalai [Melur-kurram] in Jayangondasolamandalam in consideration of 1300 kasu which seems to have been received by them from Kovan Kumaran alias Dandanayakan Madhurantakavelan, an officer of the royal treasury who was a native of Marudadu alias Vikramasolanallur in Venkunrak-kottam. Some disconnected pieces of writing are also found in the same place, which seem to have formed part of this inscription.

Manikanthesvara Temple – On The Same Wall.

Rajendra-Chola I – 10th Year (A.D. 1021-22)

This has also the same introduction like the above, but shorter in length. Some portions are lost. It registers a gift of 115 kasu for the daily supply of 4 kalanju of sidari incense to the temple at Tirumalperu by Kovan Achchan alias Madhurantaka-Pallavaraiyan, a native of Adippuliyur in Tirunaralylur-nadu, a division of Kshatriyasikhamani-valanadu in Solamandalam. The amount was invested with the sabha of Punnai alias Parakulantaka-chaturvedimangalam in Valla-nadu. It also registers another gift of 60 kasu to the temple made by the same donor for the daily unguents to the deity, which was left in-charge of the Urar of Nittavinodanallur in Damar-nadu.

North Arcot District, Walajapet Taluk, Tirumalpuram.

Manikanthesvara Temple – On The West And North Walls Of The First Prakara.

Rajendra-Chola I – 30th Year (A.D. 1041-42)

This begins with introduction Tirumanni valara etc. It registers a sale of 3000 kuli of land by the sabha of Kuram alias Solamarttanda-chaturvedimangalam in Nirvelur-nadu a division of Urrukkattuk-kottam in Jayangonda-solamandalam to the temple at Tirumalperu, for a sum of 36 Rajarajan kasu endowed to the temple by Dandanayakan Soman Kumaran alias Madhurantaka-Marayan, an officer of the royal treasury to provide for 75 kalam of paddy, with which to meet the expenses of the daily supply of tumbai flowers for the god, to feed two Sivayogins in the temple after the midday worship and for other requirements. The payment is said to have been made to the sabha by the donor to include the several taxes on the land.

Manikanthesvara Temple – On The South, West And North Walls Of The First Prakara.

Rajendra-Chola I – Date Lost.

This is a mutilated and damaged inscription which registers an agreement given by the assembly of Pangaverkkam (?) alias Solakulatilaka-chaturvedi-mangalam in Vela-nadu a division of Urrukkattukottam in Jayangondasola-mandalam to the temple at Tirumalperu for an amount of gold invested with them, by the temple with god Chandesvara as agent.
