Kalam calls for
five-year
employment mission

President A P J Abdul Kalam's Republic Day eve
address called for the launch of a series of missions covering agriculture and
food processing, education, health care, information technology and
infrastructure development.
\93The only way of overcoming shattering of the dreams is through employment
generation as it represents the aspirations and anxiety of 540 million youth of
the country. Hence I have selected the topic Action Plan for Employment
Generation,\94 the President observed in his address to the nation. Foreign exchange reserves
are rising and India is getting global
recognition for its technological competence. \93The only answer to retain the smile
from the child to the youth is to generate employment,\94 he said.
Kalam called for the launching missions in five critical sectors for
transforming India into a developed nation by 2020.
He said the need of the hour was coordinated planning and linking of the
National Rural Employment Guarantee Bill, tabled in Parliament late last year,
with productive and sustainable employment generation schemes for unemployed
youth.

nightmare today as about 300 people, mostly women and children, were killed in a
stampede on the narrow road leading to the Kalubai temple in Mandradevi, 18 km
from Wai in Maharashtra.

murder case for CBI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy
announced he would hand over the case relating to the murder of the Telugu Desam
MLA, Paritala Ravi, to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh in protest against the killing of its senior
leader Paritala Ravindra paralysed life across the State on Tuesday. Paritala

allegations from the TDP of being involved in the Paritala Ravi murder, has
sought more security for himself and his family, saying he was facing a serious
threat. RP Meena, inspector general of police (Rayala Seema), told reporters
that a section of IPS officers were also involved in systematic efforts being
made to tarnish his image and provoke some political functionaries against him.
