Job reservations won't be
imposed on private sector

The Centre on Wednesday allowed a peep into its possible policy on job quota in private sector for the Scheduled Castes and Tribes. At the first meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM), mandated with holding parleys with the industry and headed by Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh clarified that quotas would not be imposed on business houses.
The GoM met to decide on the modalities of the dialogue to be held with the industry. The GoM comprises, among others, heavyweight ministers like Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Chemical and Fertiliser Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Meira Kumar. But
Yadav and Paswan were conspicuous by their absence. The two were inducted in the GoM with an eye on the Bihar Assembly polls.
