India ranks first in antidump steps

India, along with the US and the European Union, imposed the highest number of six final antidumping measures during the first half of this year among all member nations of the World Trade Organisation. 

In absolute terms though, the final measures by India during the period under review were much lower than the 21 it had imposed during the like period of 2003, the secretariat of the multilateral institution said Tuesday. 

Significantly, five out of India's six final antidumping measures were on products classified in the chemicals sector of the WTO's Harmonized System of Tariff Classification. 

In terms of dumping investigations initiated against a country's exports, India was sixth along with Thailand, each accounting for five inquiries, while China topped the list with 23 investigations on its exports.
