to meet Bush, Musharaff, press for bigger Indian role in UN

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will have a breakfast meeting with US President George W Bush on September 21 in New York and is likely to meet Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf the next day on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session.
A hectic schedule awaits Singh who leaves on the eight-day trip on September 19 with a stopover at London where he will meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Singh will deliver his maiden address to the UN General Assembly session on September 23. He is
expected to urge a permanent seat for India in the UN Genaral
Assembly, and is slated to return home on September 26.
Pakistan says no to extradition treaty:
Pakistan has shot down an Indian proposal for an extradition treaty between the two countries, saying the time has not arrived for such a step. India had mooted the proposal during the Home Secretary-level talks in Islamabad earlier this month, sources said.
Islamabad calls for strategic restraint:
Pakistan said on Sunday that it was against an open-ended arms race in South Asia. Reacting to reports of a surface-to-surface missile test by India earlier in the day, Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said a strategic restraint was in the interest of both India and Pakistan.
Bush claims credit for Indo-Pak dialogue:
The White House posted a record of achievements by President George W Bush on its website on Saturday. Of the 19 chapters the record contains, one titled \91averting conflicts\92 claims that \93in 2002, US diplomatic intervention helped defuse a possible nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan\94.
