Barkatullah
Vishwavidhyalaya, Bhopal - The University formerly known as Bhopal University was established in 1970 in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. In 1988, it was rechristened as the Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya, in the living memory of the great freedom fighter, Prof. Barkatuallah belongs to Bhopal. The major emphasis of the University teaching departments is on interdisciplinary teaching and research. These teaching departments follow the annual semester system of teaching and examination, and make provision for such postgraduate courses, which are by and large, not provided a grant to establish a Women's Studies Centre in the Department of Sociology and have provided Special Assistance to departments of Microbiology and Physics under the SAP and COSIST.
Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar
- Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, formerly University of Saugar, was established on 18th July 1946 by Dr. Harisingh Gour by his lifetime saving. This 18th University of India and the oldest and the biggest University of Madhya Pradesh has perhaps the singular distinction of being founded by the munificence of a single person's hard earned money of about two crore of rupees.
The students and teachers of the University are ever conscious of the burden of responsibility placed on them by the dreams of a great visionary who had kindled "the light that never fails."

- DAVV Indore (formerly, university of Indore) was established in 1964 by an Act of legislature of Madhya Pradesh. The University is supported by both the State Government and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The University has thirty two level in frontline areas of Computers, Information Technology, Engineering, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Education, Management, etc. It has more than one hundred and fifty faculty members, five thousand students on the campus, 113 affiliated colleges and more than one lakh ten thousand students enrolled in all. The teaching programmes conducted at the Teaching University Departments have a multidisciplinary approach.

Vishwavidhyalaya, Bhopal - The National Policy of Education (NPE) 1986, emphasized that distance education is an important medium for the development and promotion of higher education. In this context, for the expansion and promotion of distance education the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), Government of India took an important decision that in the VIIIth year plan every state should establish a state open university following the distance education pattern. On this basis Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University (MPBOU) was established under an Act of State Assembly in 1991 to provide easily accessible, flexible learning, quality higher education through multimedia and flexible learning modes.The Idol of Vagdevi (The Goddess of Learning), of international fame, which was initially placed in Bhojshala (the school of Learning created by the great King Bhoj of Central India in the Year 1035 AD) is now in British Museum. With a very gererous support, of King Bhoj, scholars from all the parts of India converged to Bhojshala, which produced 84 monumental works in Sanskrit. The last two words in the sloka written on the top mean Dedication for the cause of learning. These words appear in the emblem of the Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University.
Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita
Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal - Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, was set up by Act Number 15 of 1990 of the Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh. The University is named after Makhanlal Chaturvedi, a renowned Freedom Fighter, Poet and Journalist.
Rani Durgavati
Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur - University of Jabalpur, now known as Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya enjoys the 'Accredited' status and has been graded as 'B++' by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore on 12.11.2002. The grading evidences the academic excellence and places the University among the best in central India. The University fraternity i.e students, teachers and employees have worked to earn this reputation and are proud of it. The University has produced a large number of internationally acclaimed academicians and scientists. 25 distinctions and awards have been given to its teachers and students and 24 international fellowships have been won by Faculty members. In the past 5 years, 292 research scholars have won Ph.D. degrees and have earned D.Sc. and D. Litt. degrees.

Vikram University is taken to have been established in Ujjain from 1st March ,1957 after the special verdict of the high Court.Otherwise Vikram University is taken as legally established from the date of publication of the supplementary Madhyabharat Gazette special issue dated 25th June, 1955.
