Providing several “line in/line-out” edits to the draft resolution imposing sanctions on Iran for its nuclear sanctions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the sanctions must include “a time limit” and “mechanisms for ending the sanctions.”

Russia ’s wanted the resolution “to reflect the agreement between the six (powers that included the 5 nuclear powers plus Germany ) and not close any doors for negotiations.” The US provided its own “line-in/line-out” edits but complained about Russia ’s “substantial changes.”

Claiming broad understanding with the Europeans, Russia also selfishly guarded at including the Bushehr nuclear facility being built with Moscow ’s cooperation displaying its financial, political, and economical interests in Iran . However, Lavrov dismissed allegations that Russia was “refusing to adopt the resolution” and instead insisted that Moscow was “ready to adopt all measures concerning Iran .
