Nobel Laureate Mohammed Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank of Bangladesh and champion of poverty allieviation and sustainable development, announced plans to enter politics in Bangladesh to help the nation overcome the "terrible political leadership." In an open letter to Bangladeshis, Yunus wrote that he was willing to take the "risk" of becoming "controversial" to provide "political goodwill, competent leadership, and good governance."

Yunus says that the political crisis in Bangladesh presents "an opportunity to create a new brand of politics"
