Concerned with Rising Violence and Parliamentary elections around the corner, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is considering an option to postpone elections by declaring emergency. Officials close to Musharraf cited the "politics of agitation" for such consideration.

But political detractors, including Benazir Bhutto's People's Party of Pakistan (PPP) which is close to a political alliance with Musharraf, say that the move is to stall elections so the President can get reelected form the current Electoral College made up of National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies loyal to him.

This is not the first time that Musharraf has floated this idea but has always backed off because of internal and external pressure.
