The US President George Bush is reportedly seeking Congressional approval for another USD 7-8 billion for security, reconstruction, and counter-offensive operations including training and policing operations against a resurgent Taliban.

The United States believe that providing a livelihood and improving infrastructure for Afghan citizens will induce civilians to spurn recruitment drive of Taliban in tribal areas where a majority of the people are illiterate and unemployable. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is also seeking help from European allies to contribute to Afghan reconstruction.
