   Bangla CEC Quits, Elections Cancelled

  Bangladesh’s controversial Chief Election Commission M.A. Aziz resigned citing a “rapidly changed” political landscape and visibly resigned President Iajuddin Ahmed accepted the resignation and called off the elections.

Bangladesh’s controversial Chief Election Commission M.A. Aziz resigned citing a “rapidly changed” political landscape and visibly resigned President Iajuddin Ahmed accepted the resignation and called off the elections. Aziz was already on a three month leave and was hanging on to his job even though he was disposed of authority and it was surprising to see that he quit because he “could not repose confidence” in him.

As a parting shot and an obvious reproach of the Opposition, Aziz said that he did not want to “give certain political parties the opportunity to create…new obstacles in the democratic process of holding national elections.
