Japan and Singapore have offered the Bihar State Government loan of Rs. 5.8 billion (USD 126 million) to develop the cultural Buddhist circuit Nalanda-Bodhgaya-Rajgir as an international tourist destination.

The Japan Bank of International Cooperation has agreed to provide the money for sewerage, water supply, and solid waste management projects. Bihar had wanted Rs. 14.8 billion (USD 321 million) for these projects as it wanted to upgrade sewerage and water system in Bhagalpur, Muzafarpur and Gaya districts too. It is not know whether Bihar has accepted this offer or whether it is seeking extra funds to complete its "integrated" development.
