The 4 Sikh Regiment, that participated in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), received the Force Commander’s Unit Citation for commendable service during the war in South Lebanon. Additionally, 73 officers and soldiers received the Force Commander’s Commendation Card for their individual contribution as part of the battalion’s second mandate with this UN mission.
Force Commander Alain Pellegrini said that he appreciated “the bravery of the battalion in the face of live fire” and “undertook various relief, recovery, replenishment and evacuation activities in the service of the Lebanese people.” He said that the 4 Sikh Regiment earned “a great amount of respect from the masses” and this respect brought a great degree of respect to the UNIFIL.
Major Saurabh Pandey said that his men, occupying a number of sensitive posts on the Lebanon-Israel border, drew “inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi” and try to “spread his message among the masses” in Lebanon .
