 China Rejects Media Reports on Brahmaputra Dam

  Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao refuted media reports saying that China has “no plans” to divert billions of cubic feet of water from the Brahmaputra (Yalung Zangbo) to the Yellow River to feed rain-starved areas of the North.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao refuted media reports saying that China has “no plans” to divert billions of cubic feet of water from the Brahmaputra (Yalung Zangbo) to the Yellow River to feed rain-starved areas of the North. Assam Chief Minister cited media reports on such a project to alert the Prime Minister.

India has started working with China to exchange hydrological information on Brahmaputra and Sutlej rivers “during the flood season for flood control and disaster mitigation in downstream areas.” Most of the river water in India comes from areas controlled by China.
