Reports indicate ahead of Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to Pakistan next month, it has decided to grant 6 300 megawatt (MW) nuclear power projects in sites to be chosen by Islamabad and with the approval of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) says that this will bring the number of nuclear plants capable of generating 8,800 MW by 2030. The selected sites are the Qadirabad-Bulloki link canal near the Qadirabad headworks, the Dera Ghazi Khan canal near the Taunsa Barrage, the Taunsa-Punjnad canal near Multan , the Nara canal near Sukkur, and the Pat Feeder canal near Guddu and the Kabul river near Nowshera.
