A Russian Parliamentary report alerted policy makers that the US will continue to pursue a hostile policy towards Moscow regardless of political affiliations or incumbent in the White House as they struggle for influence over world energy, power, and politics. A correspondent for The Hindu cited a leaked confidential report, "Likely scenario of U.S. policy towards Russia in 2006-2008," predicting that Washington will particularly will target to alienate former Soviet states from Russia and even try a regime change in Moscow.
