In typical military style, Naxal terrorists attacked the Range Forest Office in Karnataka damaging the building, burnt official records, wirless set, computer equipment, and a jeep after destroying a local telephone exchange ahead of the raid. While the motive for the attack was not known, officials say that the anti-naxal squad is combing the area for the 15-20 odd terrorists. The Forest Ranger Officer was visiting Bangalore on official business and was not present and forest officials at the location were silent spectators as they were unable to stop the attack.

Naxals have shown increased interest to disrupt forest management duties. They had earlier blasted a watch tower, a micro tower, damaged another forest department building in a neighboring area, and threatened farmers not to leave the area.

Villagers complain that despite increased Naxal activities, the police had not increased security in this region and are only reacting to incidents.
