A Hindu Vasihavaite sect in Assam says that illegal migrants from Bangladesh have usurped over 400 religious places owned by the Asom Sattra Mahasava with administrative and political connivance and has petitioned the Army for help. Having no faith in the Government to address their grievance about politically-sponsored illegal migration, the group says that their properties in 5 districts have been usurped. It is not clear if the group has approached the courts to resolve their property disputes.

Established in the 15th Century, this passive group has tremendous influence on religious, social, and cultural life in Assam.
