Ahead of the G8 summit, US President George Bush and Russian President
Vladimir Putin announced a global initiative to combat nuclear terrorism to
jointly detect, track, and capture terrorists trying to obtain nuclear and
radioactive materials. Japan, the only victim of atomic attack,
enthusiastically supported this “significant” development.
Japan plans to actively participate in discussions of the initiative to
identify areas it can help.
