Knitwear mills in Tamil Nadu town Tirpur reported increase in exports of 33.3% valued at USD 1.7 billion to grab the number 1 spot from Punjab’s Ludhiana and is aiming to increase its output to USD 2.25 billion next year.
In the post-quota textile regime, Tirpur has increased its exports to the US by 34%, EU by 30% and outpaced national average growth of 27%. With these numbers, Tirpur now has 61.5% of total knitwear export from India.
Buoyed by this success, the India Knit Fair Association is planning to set up an agency in the US to grab a larger share of American imports.
