In
a massive overnight operation aimed at
breaking the Anti-King Gnanendra
strike, Royal Nepal Army and police
swooped down and picked up
politicians, human rights activists,
journalists, students, and individuals
opposed to the royal regime. To check
terrorist activity and arrival of
protestors into
Katmandu
, police clamped night curfews.
Several
leaders went underground as security
forces searched houses, political
party offices, and university
campuses. Human Rights groups wanted
Gnanendra not to be harsh on peaceful
protestors but police say that Maoist
terrorists to infiltrate areas to
strike sensitive and soft targets
often use peaceful rallies.
Recently,
Maoist terrorists declared a unilateral ceasefire but
Gnanendra says that this is only a ruse to spread
terror and said that he will not trust them. As
expected, the terrorists said that they would not
attack in
Katmandu
but will in other parts of the country. They attacked
a patrol killing 6 soldiers. In another incident, 6
soldiers and terrorists died in a shootout.
