Former President Jimmy Carter, Nobel
Laureate for bringing peace to Israel
and Egypt, is arriving in Nepal to
talk to King Gnanendra, political
opponents, and Maoist
terrorists.
Apart from the terrorists, Gnanendra and the
politicians have been spurning offers
at mediation, facilitation, or
brokering offers from the United
Nations, European Union, Norway, and
Switzerland. The Carter Center has now
tried for long time to try lead
discussions. Last year, it invited
political parties considered close to
the terrorists to the US for
consultations.
Since the onset of insurgence 10 years ago,
this is the first time that such a
senior leader and world figure has
offered to facilitate peace.
