An
independent international media
mission that completed a tour of Nepal
stated that the media there has been
muzzled both by the Government and the
Maoist terrorists. Lauding the
journalists for their bravery, the
mission said that they are victims of
intimidation, harassment, attacks, and
detention by both parties. The
International Press Freedom and
Freedom of _Expression Mission to
Nepal is a coalition of 12 media
organizations including Reporters sans
Frontiers, International Federation of
Journalists, International Press
Institute, and World Association of
Community Broadcasters. The mission
noted with concern the
"increasing use of the Royal
Nepal Army and the armed police forces
in violations of press freedom and
freedom of _expression."
