Nehru, Jawaharlal (1889-1964): First Prime Minister for free India, 1947-1964. Pronounced the doctrine of Panchsheel, which advocated peaceful coexistence, non-alignment and  non-interference in international relations. Authored The Discovery of India, Autobiography and Glimpses of World History. Awarded Bharat Ratna, 1955.
