University, Sub Postal Office Goa University, Goa-403206 - The University was established in June 1985 around the nucleus of Centre for Post Graduate Instruction and Research of the University of Bombay in Goa.
The University Campus is located on the outskirts of Panaji, the capital city and spread over nearly 173 hectares on the Taleigao plateau overlooking the scenic Zuari River joining the Arabian Sea.
Goa University has academic programmes in a wide range of subjects, and your options here are extended further by the inter-disciplinary nature of courses taught.
Courses in Latin American Studies, French, Portuguese, Computer Science and Technology, Business Administration, Marine Biotechnology
etc, are available. PG Diploma and Certificate Courses are also offered with an objective to cater to the requirement of various Industries and Services in Goa and to provide the required manpower.
Goa
University has one of the best teacher-students ratio. The different skills and backgrounds of
the staff and students are encouraged. Almost all the Academic staff are engaged in their own research and are experts and enthusiasts in their own fields.
Various programmes and facilities of the university cover wide range of interests in teaching and research. The University has a DOD sponsored research cell in Ocean Science & Technology, and the National Informatics Centre, New Delhi, is facilitating an Advanced Centre for Informatics on the campus.
Goa University already has a Campus Wide Network using Ethernet Technology and all the individual departments have been provided with connectivity to this network in addition to full Internet connectivity which allows University faculty and students an access to all the Internet services like e-mail, FTP, WWW etc. which will greatly facilitate learning at the forefront of knowledge.
The University has established a Remote Sensing Laboratory with the financial and technical assistance from
ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization). To the students of nature and bio-diversity, the University offers a unique opportunity as it is situated in the Western Ghats region which is rich in flora and fauna.
The University has also established a unit for fungus culture collection and research.
Goa University Library is situated on the campus in a modern building and has a growing collection of books and journals.
The University has a collection of over 100000 books and subscribes to more than 450 journals out of which 200 are foreign journals which amply support basic post-graduate courses and research.
Library has carried out computerization of major holdings and is also providing contents of periodicals in science and technology of INFLIBNET on the campus network.
The University has also signed MOU with many institutions; i.e., National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, IGNOU, New Delhi, Universities in Portugal, like Moderna and Aveiro, National Centre for Software Technology, Mumbai, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, International Rice Research Institute, Philippiness etc.
The University also has participated in a collaborative programme with ISRO for INDO-EX, aimed at understanding the Indian Monsoons.
All these programmes help in further strengthening the University's Teaching and Research Programmes and provide our students international quality exposure in their chosen field.
In recognition of Goa University's efforts in overall development of course structure, students, faculty and infrastructure and the quality and standard of education/research, NAAC has accredited the University with the 4 star status for a five year period from March, 2001.
