Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology
- The ACT for establishment of Jammu and Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology was passed by the State legislature in April, 1982. The Act came into force on Ist. of August 1982, bringing the University into legal existence. The starter edifice of the Educational, Research and Extension Training Centres of various Development Departments in the field of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry and Sericulture, which were transferred to the University under the orders of the State Government. Through a separate notification, the State Government fixed the Head Quarters of the University at Agri-Horticulture Research Station, Shalimar, which had been established as early as 1905 as the first agricultural experimental farm, and was now one of the units transferred to the University.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University
- The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has been established under an Act of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature, as a residential and highly technical University to offer scientific and technical education of the highest standards. The University has been established with a foundation grant from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. The University is recognised by the University Grants Commission. The University Campus is being set up on a 400 acre area in scenic surrounding of Trikuta foothills, in the vicinity of Katra, about 38 kms from Jammu. In the first phase, the University has established the Schools of Management Studies and Information Technology. The University has introduced B.Tech. course in Information Technology and a Master’s degree programme in the School of Management Studies, from the academic year 2004.
University of Jammu
- The University of Jammu, accredited as Four Star University by National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India came into existence in 1969 vide Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 following bifurcation of the erstwhile University of Jammu and Kashmir. The University provides instructions in such branches of learning as it deems fit and makes provision for research and the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. The University stands for spiritual and material elements in life, thirst for knowledge and virtue under the backdrop of holy peaks of Trikuta Hills. University of Jammu holds examinations, grants degrees, generates knowledge and confers diverse academic distinctions on persons who pursue approved courses of study in the University or in constituent colleges/institutions approved for the purpose also for those who appear as external/private candidates. It also confers honorary degrees or other distinctions on the persons of exceptional caliber. The University also admits, maintains, recognizes, affiliates colleges and other institutions. It is primarily a research, teaching, affiliating, examining body involved in promotion of arts, science and other branches of learning. The University is open to all classes and creeds with the sole objective to carry people from darkness to light.
