   Indian Women Keeping Peace

An Indian policewomen contingent arrived in Liberia for peacekeeping

The first women-only peacekeeping contingent of 100 Indian policewomen arrived in Liberia as part of the UN peacekeeping force and participates in the 15,000 UN force already on the ground.

Women and children targeted by rival groups fear men and troops from other nations and the UN plans to use the Indian policewomen as a buffer and help facilitate more interaction. Aid groups had accused UN troops of trading food for sex with homeless girls. The women contingent is part of a plan by the UN to curb sexual exploitation of destitute women in Liberia.
