A prominent Member of Parliament and known Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) sympathizer was assassinated by unidentified killers as a Sea Tigers attack on Sri Lankan Navy resulted in the death of 6 Tigers and 35 sailors.
Nadaraja Raviraj was a member of the Tamil National Alliance, a front organization of the LTTE, as he was leaving his house in Colombo . Raviraj’s bodyguard was also killed.
President Mahinda Rajapakse condemned the killing saying that it was a “cowardly and heinous act” but seemed to accuse the LTTE of pulling off the job. He accused “those opposed to dissent and political pluralism in a democratic society” for the killing.
