While insisting that it wants to “eliminate the risks of sensitive technologies” flowing to Iran , Russia opposed a European draft resolution calling sanctions against Iran because it wanted to maintain “all possible channels of communication.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also said the draft proposed by France, Germany and Britain did not match the agreement between these three, the US, China, and Russia.

Russia says that it agrees in principle of stopping the flow of missile and nuclear technology but wants to wait for a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the Iranian nuclear program.
