Major world powers seem to be backing off their vociferous demands on
long-term moratorium on uranium enrichment by Iran and asking only for
suspensions during talks after their fully undisclosed offer seem to have got
Iran’s attention. In addition, it appears that the West is amenable to allow
Iran would be allowed to carry on with uranium conversions as a precursor to
enrichment if it agrees to multination talks.
International Atomic Energy Agency Chief Mohamed El Baradei has supported the
view that some level of compromise is necessary arguing that since Iran is
already successful with small-scale enrichment, it was unlikely that it would
give it up. The world powers also said they would be ready to support a
regional discussion to establish "regional security arrangements and a
cooperative relationship on important regional security issues." the document
states.
If the deal falls through, the document lists a set of possible penalties that
would include UN Security Council sanctions such as travel bans on Iranian
Government figures and a freeze of their foreign assets. However, since both
Russia and China oppose military action, there is no mention of such threats.
These developments are definitely help the nation back off from the brink of a
disastrous conflict—diplomatic and military, that will ruin global economic
recovery and damage relationships between nations even more.
