World's leading helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter Hindustan Aeronautics
Limited (HAL) signed a global industrial cooperation partnership agreement to
jointly produce civilian and military Ecureuil and Fennec family of helicopters
for the world market.
Per the agreement, HAL will supply composite and metallic work packages and
airframes for the Ecureuil and Fennec family of copters. Additionally, the AS
350 B3 Ecureuil will also replace the ageing Cheetah and Chetak fleets of the
Indian Army. The AS 350 B3 Ecureuil has an excellent high temperature tolerance
and altitude capability-- a new altitude record by landing on the summit of Mt.
Chomolungma, a.k.a. Mt. Everest.
A series of growing bonhomie has developed in Indo-French bilateral
relationship ranging from
nuclear deal,
new fighter aircraft,
desire to increase trade, joint
defense and
Naval exercises, and
closer co-operation in space, commerce, education, tourism, environment,
culture, and civil aviation.
Eurocopter has assiduously built its relations with India for more than forty
years with collaborations and technology transfers. The first contract was
signed with HAL in 1962 to license-built Chetak helicopter (Alouette).
